Just fire Eberflus

this is a story about defense so i will post it here. earlier today i watched the 1974 game boys at eagles. monday night. dallas actually lost 13-10 that night. At the start of the game frank gifford says

the dallas LBs dont make mistakes, for that matter their DBs dont make mistakes either because in Dallas, if you make mistakes on defense, you'll be playing for another team.

dont we wish that philosophy still was true?

If it was still true, we wouldn't be able to field a team.

Dallas didn't even make the playoffs in 1974. Yet they gave up just under 17 points per game.

In the rare moments when he as played a pressing defense, put the 3 big cats in the middle and make the DB's press in coverage, they've been pretty good but he won't do it!! Diggs is done and they should cut their losses as well as with Steele! And while I have liked what Shotty has done so far I guess, but saying that after he watched the game film on Friday and didn't see Pickens doging it or taking plays off is ridiculous! He has to be much tougher on the players and quit trying to be their best friend, call guys out when they don't play well and especially when they don't give effort on the field! The Cowboys are just a soft organization from the top to the bottom!

That was a quintessential Eberflus game. Lots of soft zones, puckered up when he needed to be aggressive and make a play. Bobby Belt tweeted that on Goff's first 6 drop backs we pressured him 4 times with 3 blitzes. On his last 29 drop backs, we blitzed only 5 times, pressured him 4 times.

Eberflus plays a passive, reactive style of defense. Pair that with a defense with clear talent issues at certain positions, specifically LB, and you get what you get out there.

The defense should be gutted this offseason and that should start with the DC.
The entire defensive coaching staff sucked, especially Eberwuss.

I don't know what the Cowboys see in him. His scheme is a bad fit for this team. He is also stubborn about running that stupid soft zone scheme. Bland, and even that new DB, are used to playing man, yet he has them both playing zone. No wonder they got burned a lot.

I'd rather have him blitz the linebackers consistently, since they don't do anything except let the opposing team’s players run wild.

Eberwuss just needs to go. He is the worst DC hire the Cowboys have ever had, and that's saying a lot.

I’m fine with him back for one more year with better lb and secondary play. You can’t keep changing d coordinators every single year and then be shocked we never have cohesion or continuity.

The defense has improved post trades. Again, don’t think he’s great but do think he deserves one more season and an offseason to come back.
Nope. I would not even give him a year. If we did that Jerry will find ways to keep him longer. Time to get rid of him is now. I wish Schotty can just demote him. He is absolutely useless.

He probably will be.

I'm hoping Schotty has some sway and pushes hard for a new DC in the offseason. Eberflus was Jerry and Stephen's hire.

If he doesn't, then he needs to go too, cause we can't win with this guy running the D.
Frankly, Schotty should just call the defense from now on. Just don't let Eberwuss do anything. Maybe he can be promoted to cheerleader. He brings nothing to the table.

I'll be interesting to see if he's back next season.

Why does he "deserve" another year? Why do we deserve to waste another season? Of course we improved after the trades, because we added actual talent. But his scheme is atrocious, he doesn't adjust, he doesn't learn. And he's a proven loser. I'm sure he'll be back because he's a Jerry pal. And tbe defense will stink again.

I'm pretty sure that Eberflus's overall defensive strategy for the season involved a of of Micah Parsons.

Eberflus had absolutely nothing to do with the completely botched contract negotiations but I'll bet it was his career that was the most significantly effected other than Micah himself.

I'm sure he was really stoked about working with Micah, the best young defender in the league. and how he was going to contribute to the new DC's gameplans. Talk about a letdown....

Eberflus was basically given one week to totally revise his defensive strategy for the season....while simultaneously preparing for the opening game against the SB defending champion Eagles.

And we also have to throw in the six new starters as well as prominent members of that defense still working their way back from injury.

Does anyone think that was easy? Perhaps that should be taken into consideration. Is the criticism really fair?

Any justification for firing a Cowboys coach is going to be tainted with the reality that the person most responsible for these results is the hypocrite doing the firing.

Who here still likes him?

44 points, lads.

44 points
The kicker is that this Detroit team has really struggled to move the ball and score for most of the season.

This is not getting 44 dropped on you by a juggernaut.

Even the 3 game winning streak was largely the Cowboys winning in spite of the defense. Not as a result of their play.
