Doomsday101;2089494 said:With the money he is making he should have no problem bumping his vacations and as I said player and fans both know that after the draft there will be a series of mini camps and OTA so this is not coming as some unexpected event they do it every year.
Yes Wade approved it but then Wade nor the Cowboys have no choice because by league rules these are so called voluntary there is not much that can say.
Am I going to hold this against Roy for here on out? No but I do think that if these workouts were meaningless then coaches would not bother having them and every effort should be made to attend.
dargonking999;2089473 said:One this isn't last year, where we were trying to implment a new offensive and defensive system.
Two, just because he hasn't had to work doesn't mean his family didn't either, vacation isn't about oh im free, lets go on cruise, it takes planning something he obviously did and it just so happen the cowboys scheduled there OTA's at the same time
Three roy being at these OTA's is not going to be the difference between winning a playoff game or not, Last i checked everybody was at the OTA's last year and we still had the same result, a first game exit.
This is May, and this is overblown by a large proportion. He wants to go on vacation, let him, as long as he is here by TC and in shape then there is nothing to complain about.
cowboyjoe;2089485 said:but thats our point, each year he isnt in true football shape, last year, he took a diet chrash course to get in shape before he showed up at training camp,
thats what were saying, do what the other players do roy, you shoulld be a leader, work out and study like jason witten, romo, T O, and newman,
be the best tip top shape you can be, then let the chips fall where they may
Doomsday101;2089504 said:Well hell then all the players may as well skip it according to you they are meaningless.
I expect our players to be there if you don't fine that is your opinion mine is you are paid damn good money to play a game get your butt out on the field regardless of it being mandatory or not.
I don't expect you or anyone else to agree with me but that is my view point.
I understand your point, but the dates weren't scheduled beforehand. I could see there being an issue if the OTAs were already scheduled and with this knowledge, Roy decided to still take a vacation. But we don't know when the Cowboys gave the players the OTA schedule. More than likely it was after he'd scheduled his vacation. If that's the case, and family was involved, there was no way he could've rescheduled at this late date.Doomsday101;2089494 said:With the money he is making he should have no problem bumping his vacations and as I said player and fans both know that after the draft there will be a series of mini camps and OTA so this is not coming as some unexpected event they do it every year.
Coaches put up hissy fits all the time when players miss OTAs, voluntary or not.Yes Wade approved it but then Wade nor the Cowboys have no choice because by league rules these are so called voluntary there is not much that can say.
I do think the OTAs have value, but I also think that Roy can easily make up whatever workouts he misses, if he so chooses.Am I going to hold this against Roy for here on out? iceberg;2089502 said:but what if the family he's going to see CAN'T change theirs now? some people have to work for a living and ask for time off months in advance. so should roy miss a vacation because of a couple of OTA and miss family time that was planned for AS A FAMILY?
it's not just roy that would be effected i'm sure if he had to back out and/or change things. we simply don't know what he has planned or how it's together. dooms, i agree with you on so many things but here i think you're overstating the value of a few OTAs and not seeing that roy could be in a situation where his backing out would ruin it for the *family*.
i try to be unbiased also and right now all we know is he put in for time off, got it approved, OTAs were scheduled, coaches don't care if he's not there, but some fans do.

Doomsday101;2089519 said:You got a job that is paying Millions make the sacrifice!!!
Velvet Jones;2089530 said:So is it the "millions" that you are bothered by? Joe Blow can schedule a week off for a family vacation, even if a project comes up, but since he makes 50k then it is ok for him to go?
As we hear and say many times... it is a job. Some live to work while other work to live. He should have the same rights with his job as I do. I would hope that if I put in for time, it were approved, but a project came up, that my boss would not expect me to put me and mine out. Sometimes it happens.. I just don't see an OTA as one of those times.
Doomsday101;2089541 said:I make a lot less and have postponed vacation because it was a bad time for the people I work for.
As for the money that the players get it makes it much easier to postpone than myself but more important it is doing whatever you have to help get this team back to the top and being part of team unity.
I expect sacrifice from our players if you don't think fine that is your opinion but I would think years of failure of this team would be motivation enough for players to be willing to go the extra mile.
I guess it is just a different era of players
dargonking999;2089554 said:But again, what are you doing it for?
This is not last year, with a new offensive and defensive system.
This is not a rookie who hasn't been in the NFL
This is not a FA who is moving to a new team
This is not Training Camp, or mini-camp
This is a voluntary workout in shorts and helmets.
Being here now is not going to put us any closer to a Superbowl then not being here now.
It is as simple as that
khiladi;2089539 said:It is the timing of all this that makes it an issue. I think it has more to do with the fact that Roy himself expressed issues with the scheme, and when he has the oppurtunity to correct the learning aspect of the game, he is going on vacation.
But it really depends on when the vacation was organized. If he knew about the OTAs and still scheduled his vacation, I think people have a right to grumble.
Doomsday101;2089567 said:As was pointed out above Roy himself has questioned fitting into the defensive scheme and in my view Championship are won because of what you did to ready yourself for the season.
I don't expect you to agree you have your own opinion I just don't agree with it. This does not make me a Roy basher or some other label people around here love to throw around.
I like Roy I like the Cowboys even more and want to see every single effort made by every memeber to get back to the top and yes it starts in the off-season at least to most coaches I have listened to over the years.
dargonking999;2089570 said:I don't think anyone was referring to you as a Roy basher, maybe some of the other posters who have yet to come in and defend there position, but to respond to your point, Roy said he had problems last year before TC, and has had a meeting with the defensive staff. I don't think that is an issue anymore. And even if it is, TC is the place to work things out, not a couple of days during the week in shorts and helmets
