Bill Cowher would be nice.

I was hoping Rivera would get the job when he came in for an interview. He'd be good, too.

Bob Stoops
Pete Carroll
Urban Meyer

totally disagree. Stoops gets schooled in bowl games and is unable to adjust at halftime --- ie. he wins on the talent gap --- not going to work in the NFL. Ditto for Carroll. He washed out in the NFL already.

Meyer is interesting. It is a little like hiring the new Steve Spurrier.

Saban and Tuberville I'd throw in the same boat with Stoops and Carroll. Great college coaches, likely average NFL coaches.

The only college coach I find at all interesting is Terry Bowden. That guy is a brilliant offensive mind, like his dad, and demands precision on the feild. He is IMO a better potential pro coach than college coach and should go that direction.

I think the NFL names are much more interesting.

1. The defensive coordinator of Baltimore (Rex Ryan, or is it Rob?). He gets all of those high-priced, egomaniacs in Baltimore to perform at a very high level...unlike Wade.

2. Steve Spagnuolo; is a good schemer, and obviously can make good decisions (turned down the Washington job last off-season is evidence enough of that). Reminds me of Jeff Fisher right down to the poor choice in facial hair.

3. Mike Shanahan if he's available.

Alas, I think we're stuck with Wade and Garrett. This was without question the least enjoyable cowboys season since 2000. Worse than any of Campo's years.

IMO, the best names on this list so far are

Best
1) Cowher
2) Schottenheimer
3) Green
4) Holmgren
worst of the good candidate list

I think Cower will be offered Coach/GM/President/% of team somewhere. He doesn't NEED Jerry. Hottest name out there.

Schottenheimer would be a great pickup. He demands dicipline and wouldn't change any of the schemes. You could just replace Wade, keep most of the staff---you know jerry will want that---and still win. If he comes back to the NFL, I really beleive he will get his title next time. Jerry won't have a problem with Kurt S. on the staff.

Green is not that great of a coach, IMO, but he would work great with Jerry. He has never really run everything, so having jerry in charge of personnel is no change of pace. Green will demand the player's attention. May not yeild a title, but should be solid.

Holmgren is just not THAT good. Is he capable of getting a team to the superbowl once? Obviously. Is he capable of maintaining a dynasty team? The evidence says no.

I'd add George Seifert, Jim Mora, and Brian Billick to top of the list of guys Jerry COULD GET who would excell in the job.

Siefert took over a good team and maintained them winning the suuperbowl. He runs a 3-4. He was an excellent defensive coordinator and would demand Romo take care of the ball\cut down INTs.

Mora took the stars to 3 USFL championship games winning 2. I think he suffered some back luck in the NFL. Hebert was...IMO...very overrated and never made the clutch playoff plays needed in New Orleans. In Indy, Mora lacked enough talent on defense the whole time he was there. I think on a team with the talent of Dallas, Mora would revert to his USFL level.

Billick was an offensive mastermind who proved he can coach any style to win. He also demands precision and tough defense.

-----
Barring those guys, I always thought Al Saunders did enough in San Diego to deserve another HC gig. He took over that team right after all of Coryell's talent retired. He didn't baby people and did go 3-0 in the strike scab games where teams had more level talent.

Provided he could get two good coordinators, Michael Irvin.

Honestly, I kinda like that, but I still fear this dark side of Irvin that got him into trouble over and over again.

He is a guy with fire and passion, and that I like.

Steve Spagnuolo
Jimmy Johnson-He would never do it, but he is older and wiser now. At least give him a call.
Bill Cowher
Jon Gruden-I know Tampa Bay collapsed, but why do I think a change of scenery would do go for Grunden and that he would do well here?
Tommy Tuberville
and here is a longshot for you, that would never do it, but Danny White.

I like this idea.

If Jerry won't give us a new coach, why not create a "fantasy" season that will mirror the real one, and we can all live vicariously through an actual team/coach.

I think both of the Ryan boys will eventually be successful NFL head coaches, but I wouldn't roll the dice on them first. Especially with this team. I want someone who sees what is there and understand how not to break what works. I want a veteran coach.

I don't think I like Shanahan. He wanted plummer. That failed. He wanted their new QB and he doesn't excite me. I think he was the right guy for elway, but I don't know if he can bottle that magic. Plus would he go for Jerry making player decisions?

I had him as my dark horse last time, and I still think he has great boom or bust potential. Would he be the firey leader this team needs who can keep TO in line and get Roy Williams to step up, or would the team quickly tire of him and tune him out? If Jerry is going to roll the dice with anyone unproven, he might be the pick.

Irvin with Garrett and the lesser Ryan as DC?

I agree.

Those guys are more like salesman. Anyone can coach when they have 10 1st round draft picks. I would like to see some inovation for once. Garrett has become too predictable.

One name I find interesting as a HC is Al Golden from Temple. He isn't working with much, but he comes highly recommended and could be the heir to the Penn St job once Joe Pa kicks the bucket.
