Kaiir Elam on why things didn't work out in Buffalo

He started six games as a rookie and even picked off Mahomes in the playoffs. He got hurt his second season and went on injured reserve. When he came back last year the Bills stuck with the guy that replaced him.

You are right about the athlete part, but the Cowboys are still getting a free look at a former first round pick. If he flames out here all they lose is a late pick. The Bills are the big losers here since they are the team that once took him 23rd overall.
Yeah there's that but what I heard is that he's not as good in man to man, you know one-on-one coverage..

Hes better in zone and whenever they figured that out and they were short a bunch of corners they had to change to a zone and he played a lot better...

I'm not saying he's any good or he's going to be successful but sometimes you just send the wrong scheme you're on the wrong team and you're buried on the depth chart and you don't get as much of a chance and than thrown into the fire, but I read he's pretty good in zone not sure what we're going to play here with eberflues but they went out and got him for a reason... I mean they didn't have to give up a lot for him, but they made a trade to get this guy the new coaching staff must have targeted him for whatever reason these are not players Jerry Jones and Steven sitting have a pen and paper and go hey we need to go get that guy no somebody recommended going to get that guy.

Maybe Elam didn't fit what the Bills do defensively. Every team makes these kinds of mistakes.
Look you're not gonna get through to all the people who are dead set on calling everybody a bus they hate everything they hate everybody they're gonna be negative at everything they say... You know the same guys who called Sam darnold the bust and Baker Mayfield the bust and there was never gonna be a chance for Geno Smith the way he was with The Jets but apparently those guys all got second and third chances and they resurrected their careers they don't think that can happen with a corner apparently they don't wanna believe it can happen..

I'm not saying it can happen but for the same reason he may have been let go in Buffalo because he's with the wrong scheme one of our coaches somebody on this staff or will mcclay saw this guy and said hey he might fit here let's go get him I'll take their word over it just to give the guy a shot he's a camp body he'll be competing for a job just like everyone else they don't have to invest much in him at the moment and we'll see what he's got.

Why does everything need to be positive? You are a mod, not the thought police. This is what I am thinking at the moment until proven otherwise.
He's a mod...,but he's also a fan. He chooses to be positive, you choose to be negative. We have our share of negative mods and invisible mods. Has nothing to do with their fandom

Mod has nothing to do with it. Why does every positive need to be spun as a negative?
I have my thoughts and opinions, am I not allowed that. As you are?

Basically, the Cowboys just rounded up as many former bust 1st round picks as they could and think their coaching will turn them back into gold, or least a couple into gold.

Bold strategy, Cotton.

IMO, at best, they may get a few good depth pieces, which is fine but they won't fix any of their actual holes with these guys. Again, the strategy despite the flurry of FA signings, is this ******* organization thinks their playmakers will come from the draft. It's a flawed strategy but it is what it is.

If you don't mindlessly praise every signing of a former first round washout from other teams, you are a traitor.

Prepare to be tried for high treason.

We all HOPE that all of these signings work out, but we all know that these types of players are zeroes 99% of the time.

I’d never defend this unqualified and entitled FO, but I really have no problem with taking fliers on higher end talent that could have been in the wrong situation.

Is it not better than last years approach? They need miracles to win under this structure. May as well but a few lottery tickets.

Cool, another promising db with a chip on hia shoulser. Didn't Chido have a chip on his shoulder tattoo?

It might actually be. Don't remember the names, but not too long ago a player was talking about how much more professional his team was than previously w/ the Cowboys.

Just back in OCT 24 there was an ESPN article quoting players about the culture: "The reports claimed players find the tours distracting and that there is a feeling that the Cowboys are not all about football and winning."

Maybe the players should concentrate on their workouts, and not the tours. :lmao:

To some extent there could be some truth to this, but a system reliant player typically just means you have a player who is limited in what they can do. No matter what system a guy plays in cover 3 is still cover 3, cover 1 is still cover 1. If we still had a Kris Richard type of DC who wanted to think outside the box on coverage concepts I'd be a little more open minded to this argument, but we have Eberflus who historically is about as vanilla on the back end as youll see.

We will see, maybe Eberflus changes things up and moves away from what he has historically done, but I think the Cowboys defense could look a lot more like Buffalo's 2024 defense than Dallas's 2024 defense. Heavy zone concepts while rushing four up front. Last year the Cowboys mixed coverages mostly between man and cover 3 while blitzing over 30% of the time. Buffalo plays heavy zones while rushing just 4 at one of the highest rates in the league. Under Eberflus Chicago blitzed at one of the lowest clips in the league ranking 25th, 25th, and 16th during his three seasons there. The wild part of those numbers is the last year Buffalo actually got pressure in an average of just 2.63 seconds which is the 8th best in the league despite only rushing 4 80% of the time. I was thinking maybe Dallas has a better pass rush which will force the ball out of QB hands quicker and make Elams job easier, but that actually doesnt seem to be the case here.
