Players who earned more playing time

Brice Butler
Alfred Morris
Charles Tapper
RB/FB Rod Smith
WR Andy Jones
S Kavon Frazier (on Defense, Not ST)
TE Rico Gathers
CB Marquez White
S Xavier Woods

Players who earned less playing time

DE Damontre Moore
DT Richard Ash
LB John Lotulelei
KR Lucky Whitehead (yes, it’s a cheap shot)

Players helped their shot at a Practice Squad Spot

WR Brian Brown
DL Lewis Neal
DL Woody Baron
TE Blake Jarwin
WR Noah Brown
S Jameil Showers (even though he isn’t eligible)

Gathers was a lot of fun to watch, I don’t think he moved up the depth chart but he is showing too much talent for them to cut him. You saw the natural pass catching ability and the Run After Catch, but he also (seemingly) carried out his blocking assignments. I just have the regular TV feed but on those plays that I saw, he has 40 pounds on the LB he is blocking. So its not an OT/DE scrum, it’s a smaller LB dancing around a bit because he knows he only has a snowball’s chance of getting around a guy that big. The other key to me was he played on a punt coverage team and did well getting downfield and getting in position to make a play. He will likely end up as the 4th TE, but he could still contribute on ST in the games he is active.

Charles Tapper was the second Forum pet cat who stood out to me, he looks totally different from his college tape. He doesn’t look like a big guy with straight line speed like he did at OU, he looks like a fairly big guy that is quick and fast. Demontre Moore didn’t show me anything in this game, but Tapper looked like a great rotation option to come in at spots as a rusher – similar to Mayowa late in the season last year. Tapper looks like he would do very well in that kind of situational role.

I thought Taco Charlton and Awuzie showed a lot of talent, both had ups and downs like typical rookies but both showed flashes. Both guys should be solid rotation guys. I also thought Anthony Brown looked good at CB before he left with a hammy.

Rod Smith looked like a Richie Anderson type utility back out there tonight. That is going to make it tough for Morris, because they seem to be in love with McFadden as the #2. But does Rod Smith's emergence put Keith Davis's position in jeopardy?

You have Showers on there for earning less playing time, but say he should be on the practice squad even though he isn't eligible. Which one is it?

You have to think so, especially with all the nonsense going on with Zeke possibly being suspended. Rod Smith would give you the plays you want at FB, but still be able to spell the starting RBs if needed. He looked good tonight, I have to think he is the frontrunner for FB right now.

Thanks for the catch on Showers, I edited my post. I meant that he looked like a good practice squad candidate, he seemed very aware as the deep safety and had a good stick on a ball carrier. But he is in roster limbo where he isn't good enought to make the roster but not eligible for the Practice Squad.

I don't think Rod has in bearing on Keith's roster spot. KSmith has improved as a pass-catcher and has been a better blocker. Now they play different positions.

Right, Keith Smith. Keith Davis was like 13 years ago or something. Oh, and I really wish they would put the first initial back on the player's jersey when they share the same last name with another player, because I couldn't tell the two Smith's apart for awhile.

On paper Smith actually helps Morris when you look at skillsets, building a RB rotation and how they fit the scheme. But yeah for whatever reason, McFadden is loved by the coaching staff, or maybe just Jerry......

Agree 100% good write up.

Morris looks like a different back, I watched him a lot in DC and always thought he was a good back when he got his carries. But he looks like he has another gear now since he has dropped some weight.

I thought Moore showed a good first step. He did draw a holding penalty at some point. Granted he was playing against backups the whole game. He had some juice.

I was expecting a lot more, you would think a guy with the physical talent and NFL experience would make plays against the 3rd string of Arizona. I never want to knee jerk but after yesterday's game I would think Moore is on the roster bubble and Tapper will get those 2nd/3rd string reps as a situational pass rusher.

I liked what I seen from Tapper. At least he showed some burst.

He is definitely an unfinished product but he showed both quickness and speed. Even slimmed down he is big enough to hold up at RDE.

Our 2016 Draft might already be the best in team history, if Tapper develops into a good rotational guy or better it just cements that ranking.

You could plug Rod Smith in a number of places. A great player to have on the 53 !!!
