Gathers was a lot of fun to watch, I don’t think he moved up the depth chart but he is showing too much talent for them to cut him. You saw the natural pass catching ability and the Run After Catch, but he also (seemingly) carried out his blocking assignments. I just have the regular TV feed but on those plays that I saw, he has 40 pounds on the LB he is blocking. So its not an OT/DE scrum, it’s a smaller LB dancing around a bit because he knows he only has a snowball’s chance of getting around a guy that big. The other key to me was he played on a punt coverage team and did well getting downfield and getting in position to make a play. He will likely end up as the 4th TE, but he could still contribute on ST in the games he is active.
Charles Tapper was the second Forum pet cat who stood out to me, he looks totally different from his college tape. He doesn’t look like a big guy with straight line speed like he did at OU, he looks like a fairly big guy that is quick and fast. Demontre Moore didn’t show me anything in this game, but Tapper looked like a great rotation option to come in at spots as a rusher – similar to Mayowa late in the season last year. Tapper looks like he would do very well in that kind of situational role.
I thought Taco Charlton and Awuzie showed a lot of talent, both had ups and downs like typical rookies but both showed flashes. Both guys should be solid rotation guys. I also thought Anthony Brown looked good at CB before he left with a hammy.
