Players who earned more playing time

Brice Butler
Alfred Morris
Charles Tapper
RB/FB Rod Smith
WR Andy Jones
S Kavon Frazier (on Defense, Not ST)
TE Rico Gathers
CB Marquez White
S Xavier Woods

Players who earned less playing time

DE Damontre Moore
DT Richard Ash
LB John Lotulelei
KR Lucky Whitehead (yes, it’s a cheap shot)

Players helped their shot at a Practice Squad Spot

WR Brian Brown
DL Lewis Neal
DL Woody Baron
TE Blake Jarwin
WR Noah Brown
S Jameil Showers (even though he isn’t eligible)

Gathers was a lot of fun to watch, I don’t think he moved up the depth chart but he is showing too much talent for them to cut him. You saw the natural pass catching ability and the Run After Catch, but he also (seemingly) carried out his blocking assignments. I just have the regular TV feed but on those plays that I saw, he has 40 pounds on the LB he is blocking. So its not an OT/DE scrum, it’s a smaller LB dancing around a bit because he knows he only has a snowball’s chance of getting around a guy that big. The other key to me was he played on a punt coverage team and did well getting downfield and getting in position to make a play. He will likely end up as the 4th TE, but he could still contribute on ST in the games he is active.

Charles Tapper was the second Forum pet cat who stood out to me, he looks totally different from his college tape. He doesn’t look like a big guy with straight line speed like he did at OU, he looks like a fairly big guy that is quick and fast. Demontre Moore didn’t show me anything in this game, but Tapper looked like a great rotation option to come in at spots as a rusher – similar to Mayowa late in the season last year. Tapper looks like he would do very well in that kind of situational role.

I thought Taco Charlton and Awuzie showed a lot of talent, both had ups and downs like typical rookies but both showed flashes. Both guys should be solid rotation guys. I also thought Anthony Brown looked good at CB before he left with a hammy.
Good write up !!!

On paper Smith actually helps Morris when you look at skillsets, building a RB rotation and how they fit the scheme. But yeah for whatever reason, McFadden is loved by the coaching staff, or maybe just Jerry......

Or maybe he is loved by the coaches because he is a good player. Sure glad the fans aren't building this years team.....based on a few runs, all of a sudden he lost it...I know fans need to hate on certain players. But some get passes on their bad plays.

Yes, I think Tapper did well, he was in on quite a fews plays other than the ones he made himself.
He could get around the corner, and also flash inside with pressure. Didn't see him get stonewalled once.

This is why I laugh at how perceptions are. I watched the DLine (in the first half anyway) and thought DMoore was the best DE on the field followed closely by Tapper and then a big drop before Neal and Taco. With that said, I am unsure who missed assignments because the interior of Carrell (sp?) and Ivie were so bad that they had no push what so ever and were man handled basically every play. DMoore shot down inside quickly to stop runs and was held (without call) quite a few times. Tapper flashed some speed and a quick first step. Neal has a little size and strength, but Taco seemed to be a tweener. Taco wasn't quick enough to speed rush and not strong enough to bull rush and not big enough to just hold ground. I am not saying that he won't develop, but IMO, he has a ways to go.

With this said, all of the DE's would have looked better with a better push from the interior which I didn't see anytime in the first half. DE's using quickness were just shoved around the back and no pressure up the middle to move the QB backwards. Gabbart had a beautiful pocket most of the time.

Didn't Damontre Moore get a sack during Terrell Davis' stupid interview last night?

That was the 1st preseason game....calm down.

I don't see anyone jumping off ledges in here. It is reasonable to evaluate what various people observed last night. The good, and the bad, of course.

That is a very small sample size and no doubt things may change over time, but it WAS a game against people who are being paid to play against us. This wasn't a scrimmage against the sisters of the blind.

OK....but some of 'em were the brothers of the blind. Do what you do.

while I agree that they deserve more PT, it will be interesting to see if they get that as 1st and 2nd teamers get THEIR time on the field...for example, if you see Gathers getting PT against the other team's first unit, then you might have something

Yeah man, the DTs were getting completely mauled inside. That alone skews the evaluation of the surrounding players. Almost like trying to evaluate WRs with a QB who can't read a defense.
