I dont think Reeves is that bad...

I dont think he is a shutdown corner.....but how many are in this league anymore?

In the right system .....he will do alright IMHO.

I dont think Reeves was the problem in our secondary......I blame it on more on the zone coverages we run.

Did the Texans pay too much.....sure they did......but almost every player signed this year in FA is overpaid.

I mean.....IMHO....we overpaid for Zach Thomas.....sure he is probally a HOF...but his better days are over with.

btw....we shouldnt look at carreer ints...

Should we apply that same logic to Newman..?

Is Henry a better CB ....because he has more carreer ints?

We will miss Reeves....more because we have no one as good right now as our 3rd CB.......

Dallas had no choice but to let him go.....Texans overpaid....and made him a starter....I happy for the guy and wish him the best of luck.

Career INTs vs. how often thrown at. Therein lies the difference in using that stat. Teams do not throw at Newman anywhere near as much as they do Henry. More opportunities will lead to more INTs.

Also, truth be told the only career INT count I am saying is relevant is 1 career INT in a 4 year career.

I do think Dallas will be able to select a player that is better and with more upside than Reeves. I don't blame Reeves for Dallas coming up short but I don't think Reeves will ever be much more than he is right now mediocre CB. Dallas picked him up in the 7th rd in 04 and frankly I think we can do better than Reeves

Also the very first game against the Giants, on the very first play that Eli threw to Plaxiglass, who was covering Plexiglass? I seem to remember a touchdown on the very first play but don't know who was covering him

I agree with that.

Unless we totally screwup at the top of the draft, virtually any CB taken should have more upside and quite honestly if Reeves had been resigned there is no doubt in my mind that he would have been no higher than the 4th corner on this team.

I agree guys that Reeves isnt anything special......and there is no way I wanted to keep him for that kind of cash.

But.....I just didnt think he was that bad

4 yrs and 1 int doesnt mean much to me......Reeves only started 14 games in his career. 13 of which was in a new system and alot of zone coverages.....which I dont think suited him...Newman and Henry well.

I hope he does well for the Texans

He will be missed.....but Im more concerned with the coverages we run....our pass rush has improved....and hopefully....our coverages will .....

CB is a priority with this team......Henry isnt getting any faster and has run into some injuries......

Patrick Watkins only played in 14 games in 2006. It was a new system for him in an elevated league. He had 3 INTs.

Some guys just don't have good instincts for the ball.

Everson Walls wasn't fast but he was a thief.

Henry plays physical and he can make teams pay if they keep throwing at him. Reeves can't.

I agree Hos that Reeves doesnt make them pay... Like Henry does.....but does Newman make them "pay"?

Walkins is a safety.....apples and oranges there....

Im not proclaiming that Reeves is great or a shutdown corner.....I just dont think he was that bad...considering the situation he was put in this year.

He was overpaid....and has become a starter there because of that.....I hope he does well.....IMHO...I think he can be a solid starter in this league.....I guess I just give out more blame to the system that was installed then to the players. I just hate zone coverages..... :)

Henry has had two big interception years but all the others are right in line with Newman's totals even though Newman doesn't get tested as much.

Newman
2003 4 int
2004 4 int
2005 3 int
2006 1 int
2007 4 int

Henry
2001 10 int
2002 2 int
2003 1 int
2004 4 int
2005 3 int
2006 6 int

Here's a gee whiz stat.

We are losing 3 members of our 2007 secondary.

Jacques Reeves, 4 years, 60 games, 1 INT, 19 Passes Defended

Nate Jones, 4 years, 51 games, 0 INTs, 2 Passes Defended

Keith Davis, 5 years, 68 games, 0 INTs, 5 Passes Defended

If that doesn't scream time to upgrade the entire Secondary, nothing will.

Reeves does not do everything that Newman does. Neither does Henry. It is not as if Newman doesn't get interceptions. He just does not get those really high interception totals. Still he gets more than Reeves plus covers the slot and just does everything better.

Dallas has no one at this very moment better than Reeves, but they will by the time the season starts. They will draft someone and/or one of the other guys on the roster will step up. Dallas will not miss Reeves.

That makes me wonder where Pete Hunter ranks on your list there... :D

AP Sports. Wednesday, March 5th, 2008. Reports are surfacing that Espn's "Kc Joyner" Is completely incompetent. Reports began to come out after claiming The Dallas Cowboys Former Cornerback Jacques Reeves was an " Underrated signing " . More reports are coming out that Espn (stationed in Bristol Conn. ) is losing credibility and can no longer be considered a "media outlet" . More to come.
