Jevon Kearse will miss the 2006 season with sprains to his MCL, LCL, and PCL.

Kearse had 2.5 sacks before suffering the injury Monday. It's a massive loss for an emerging Eagles defense, although they are a rare team that has depth on the defensive line. Look for Trent Cole, who already has four sacks, to start opposite Darren Howard.

Comparing Kearse to Cole is like comparing prime-rib to round steak. Without Kearse the rest of the Philly d-line is going to fnd collecting sacks that much tougher. Bad break for Philly but that's how it works.

Cole is effective as a backup. As a starter, he's gonna find NFL life much more difficult. He'll actually have to play the run now. What is he, about 240 lbs? Flozell is going to obliterate him.

Cole will not start opposite Howard. Juqua Thomas will. Cole will continue to subsitute for Howard and push Howard to DT on nickel downs.

If Cole wants to run away from him on a running play, better for us.

Trent Cole is likely to start at defensive end following Jevon Kearse's season-ending injury.

Cole had a fine rookie season and has had major major strides as a pass rusher in 2006, with four sacks already.

That sucks for Kearse and Philly obviously.

They're really going to miss his play making ability.

Kearse looked really explosive this year. I feel sorry for him b/c i know how much knee injuries suck.

I wasnt aware that sprains to the acl or mcl were season ending.

I heard that earlier and thought he'd just miss a few weeks.

Did they put him on IR already? Or are they going to PUP him and see if he can come back in 6+ weeks?

A sprain is a tear. There are different degrees to a sprain. A 3rd degree sprain is (if I remember correctly) a tear to 3 different ligaments.

Some 1st degree sprains are more serious then others too. A "Slight sprain" is a slight tear (nothing serious).

And he is not eligible for the PUP.

kearse looked good the other night but he wasn't alone in giving manning fits. manning got how many sacks/hurries and knockdowns? how immobile is our qb?

then, who's line is better, ours or the giants?

we'll find out when we face a real defense.

If Philly is going anywhere this year their defense has to take them and losing Kearse is not going to help. Their offense will eventually show its holes so I think this injury really hurts them because it affects their strongest unit in a major way.

I never wish injuries on anyone, & I'm really sorry to hear this about Kearse. This, however, is why the Titans let him go in the first place. He's always hurt. It was a risk that paid off for the Iggles the first few years with Kearse, but looks like the injury bug is back for him. It's not his fault. Somehow, some players just seem to be injury prone (as a Penn Stater, Ki-Jana Carter jumps to mind).

I dont think this really makes a big impact on Philly except in terms of leadership..Philly has perhaps the most depth at D-line much like us. They have 14 D-liine man on the ruster. Patterson, Howard, Cole, Bunkley-aint bad

That was a freak play though that could happen to anyone. It's not like it's a pulled groin or hamstring, or he broke a foot on his own...Someone fell on his leg just like Flozell.
