I think many good points have been made in this thread.
Sadly, I think Jerry will opt for the path of least resistance and extend both MM and MZ citing injuries in lieu of coaching or talent as the primary reason for Dallas’ failures…Jerry has always over-estimated the Cowboys’ talent level.
Moreover, in the event Jerry did turnover the coaching staff, who would want to come to Dallas and put up with all the distractions and meddling that is part of the dysfunction of the organization? There is a reason Jerry hires retreads and those with no other coaching offers…no self-respecting and accomplished coach would tolerate Jerry’s antics.

I disagree, they went into last search wanting an experience HC, not a 1st time HC who has to learn on the job like Jason Garrett did. Cowboys job will always be attractive cause of the national attention.

I cannot envision MM returning, he is responsible for the offense and they were playing badly even before the injuries took place with Dak/OL.

Read the posts on the draft zone, we have been diving into it for a few weeks already.
You can't envision it but the way he's being supported by both sides of the football our best players in Prescott and Parsons are saying they would like to see him come back that's gonna put a seed in Jerry's head not saying that he's gonna be convinced but if you see Mike McCarthy he could return as the head coach with a new offensive staff that could be the compromise that could be the conditions they let Jerry go out and find a better offensive coordinator offensive line coach. In the story all of them across the board need to be changed out...

I'm not saying I want him back but you gotta separate Mike McCarthy the head coach from Mike McCarthy the offensive coordinator and that's what Jerry might be doing he's gonna have a hard time but we have to have a good offseason we have to have some luck this injury bug this year is one of the worst I've ever seen for the Dallas Cowboys 2020 was close but this might be worse I mean this is a attrition right here this is just terrible these guys now have to rehab and get back and overshown that is a huge blow i mean i can't even overstate it..

It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if Jerry Jones made that decision, but it would be such a foolish hire. Just another guaranteed 4-5 years wasted.

One of 4 things will happen here.

1. He will be named HC here
2. He will stay as DC for MM or KM (if he’s hired).
3. He will retire
4. Or slim chance he coaches elsewhere

Jerry Jones can hire any head coach candidate available if he’s willing to pay the man what it takes to get him. Head coaches work for money. If you’ve reached a point you’re considered for any NFL head coach job you’ve reached a point where it’s about compensation, not “national attention”.

You’re just poking to get a response. You don’t believe that. Zimmer is a has been. I bet you think Mazi is a first ballot HOFer.
Zimmer has done a good job. A lot of people feel that way.

Who are a lot of people? Do they watch the games? Do they break down game film? You know better than this. Come on man. You just throw stuff at the wall to try and get a response.

Do you pay attention? You have your opinion and I have mine.

You really believe that, especially a HC job that has so much national attention. Add in the Cowboys could also add his son.
I’m dead serious when I say….until Jerry leaves the planet, the Cowboys head coaching position is a pariah.

This is not an attractive job to any self respecting, established HC who wants to act like a real HC. You know…the ones being able to their own assistants, have control over discipline and the locker room, and having control over the message going out to the media. Those kind of coaches do not want to come here to be the window dressing and fall guy when things go south.

Besides, when are we going to all understand, this 82 year old insecure billionaire will never surrender his beloved spotlight and control to anyone ever again. So when someone throws out the name of a serious, talented HC candidate forget it.

Our past HCs and next HC will be or be like one or all of the following:
  • A retread either finished or near finished (Like McCarthy or Zimmer)
  • A less heralded assistant who no one else wants (Campo, Wade Phillips)
  • A young assistant Jerry loves so he can crow that he “developed” him. (Garrett, Kellen Moore)
  • Whoever it is, they must make JJ comfortable, not be media stars, and not object to the GM undermining them.

I think Zimmer has been successful in what he's done this season with the defense. It's just unfortunate that the injuries have been so costly.
