I know we are extremely thin on the D but a lot of them are just a bunch of Jags or even less than that anyways, I say keep Byrd, let WR be another "Strength" on this team. Can you imagine Byrd on one side and Dez on the other? Those are two big beasts to cover...

Yes, I'm all for keeping Byrd. I said this back before start of TC. Byrd makes the team, and at that time, Washington & Boyd to the PS.

Keeping a better receiver than any D lineman aint helping the D line at all. Not saying that we should fill the roster with scrubs on the D line, but we dont have the luxury of keeping a decent 6th receiver over an able bodied D lineman. Just my opinion. .

Keeping a scrub for a Dline ain't helping the Dline as well. In fact, it makes it worst because were rewarding bad players a position. While those that deserve a spot on the team like Byrd, is cut.

Honestly, I think its time we think about rebuilding. Were not going anywhere with this defense. Blame goes to Jerry and Garrett for letting Rob Ryan walk and don't know what it would take to build a real defense.

When scrubs are all thats on the market, you buy a scrub for the D line over another Receiver that wont see the field (baring injuries). Hoping a player or three hits the waiver wire and we pounce, A scrub in a gap is better than a WR standing on the sideline if no one serviceable hits the waiver wire.

Would a scrub DL be better than a WR that can contribute, even if a little. And would that DL be a better player, overall than Byrd. no he wouldn't.

If we have a scrub at DL to keep, then the DL just above him on the depth chart, how good is he.
It would be better to dump both those DL, and get another DL off waivers that can replace both of them, and still keep Byrd.

In any other year I would agree with you. But right now the defense is so bad I would rather try and get rid of the scrubs anyway you can. You don't want scrubs lingering year after year like what happened to Webb and Johnson.

Insanity in Dallas has reached its peak. Its time for a different path. Stop stockpiling scrubs. Just get rid of them and send a message to the team that bad play will get your cut.

What about Newsome?

Laron Byrd is a lot like the players we already have.

Newsome has good size, is quick, and is making plays in traffic.

Lots of waiver wire and maybe trades to happen yet, some after the 2nd week----churn even more than just the "bottom" of the roster

I agree with this. Yes I know Street was a 5th rounder we traded up for, but Byrd and Newsome have showed me so much more this preseason.

OP wants to keep Byrd over scrub. You want to keep able bodied DL. You're both right IMO.

Agree with first paragraph.

Second paragraph: we are rebuilding; on the fly. We fired Rob Ryan; he didn't walk. Don't know the reasons for sure but supposedly due to personal differences.

I hate the idea of cutting a player who worked his *** off to make the team and deserves to make it. At least he'll probably get claimed off waivers, which will be good to see

Agree about some routes. And they are more attractive in terms of size. Only one will make it if that IMO.

do you really think he will contribute this year? think about the game day roster and shw me how he gets activated for a game. i like the kid and hope we can keep him but he is'nt going to contribute this year at all if kept. as much as i would like to keep and develope him the numbers may not work out. you have to have depth at every position and that means you may cut a better player at one position to have a worse player and another. thats the only way you can field a roster though and it happens all the time. the JAG you keep at tackle is going to see the field every week. the last wr on the roster is not going to be active

I figured unless he plays ST's, which I believe he does. He would be inactive. But he would still be better than a scrub, who may be in the same situation.
If they have a scrub, most likely he will be inactive too. I really don't think they will have 10 or 11 active players on game day on the DL.
He may be until Spencer & Lawrence return, but even at that, how much playing time would he get.

Yes, WR is a strength on this team, so the prudent thing to do is look for for a trading partner for DL help.

You can't get all the WR's on the field, and we have glaring weaknesses still in the front 7.
