What about Newsome?

Laron Byrd is a lot like the players we already have.

Newsome has good size, is quick, and is making plays in traffic.

If we were going to keep one, I'd rather it be Newsome. He's been better than Byrd.

Would prefer to try to get both on the practice squad.

Devin Street hasn't shown much this camp and doesn't seem to do much on special teams...
If I were king, I would just cut him and try and put him and Boyd on PS. I think Byrd should
make the team based on play and special teams effort. JMVHO!

do you really think he will contribute this year? think about the game day roster and shw me how he gets activated for a game. i like the kid and hope we can keep him but he is'nt going to contribute this year at all if kept. as much as i would like to keep and develope him the numbers may not work out. you have to have depth at every position and that means you may cut a better player at one position to have a worse player and another. thats the only way you can field a roster though and it happens all the time. the JAG you keep at tackle is going to see the field every week. the last wr on the roster is not going to be active

If Byrd is active, then Street is probably inactive. I don't see 6 WRs on the 46 man game day roster.

I know we are extremely thin on the D but a lot of them are just a bunch of Jags or even less than that anyways, I say keep Byrd, let WR be another "Strength" on this team. Can you imagine Byrd on one side and Dez on the other? Those are two big beasts to cover...

If they keep 6, I'm not certain if it's Boyd or Newsome. Boyd is really big but Newsome fights for the ball better. Newsome has shown up in all of the preseason games to some extent.

I didn't even realize that Newsome has been in the league for awhile.

For some reason I thought he was a rookie. No wonder I thought he looked so polished lol.

In any other year I would agree with you. But right now the defense is so bad I would rather try and get rid of the scrubs anyway you can. You don't want scrubs lingering year after year like what happened to Webb and Johnson.

Insanity in Dallas has reached its peak. Its time for a different path. Stop stockpiling scrubs. Just get rid of them and send a message to the team that bad play will get your cut.

Webb wasn't lingering. He was drafted last year, and they made a pretty quick decision about moving on from him if you ask me. And Johnson wasn't taking up any roster space as he has been on IR. What would you have them do? They aren't stockpiling scrubs, they are doing what they can to rebuild (and yes they are rebuilding) using the draft and with being limited by Salary Cap struggles recently they aren't able to Splash in FA. We'll get there. Just need to keep drafting smart. It could be a rough year but I will be there rooting them on!!! Go Boys!

I'd rather Williams or Devin street opposite Dez, I like Byrd but Beasley is better slot receiver and unless Byrd can play special teams he should be cut and hope he clears waivers, wouldn't be active on game day anyway....I don't see Dallas keeping 6 receivers when this defense is this horrendous and thin on talent...need as many bodies as possible on defense...

What do you think we have been doing for the last 3 years?

We have been reorganizing, not rebuilding. When you fire your D. Coordinator without a solid backup plan on defense and switching offensive playcallers 3 years in a row, something is going to give way. Its like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic.

When scrubs are all thats on the market, you buy a scrub for the D line over another Receiver that wont see the field (baring injuries). Hoping a player or three hits the waiver wire and we pounce, A scrub in a gap is better than a WR standing on the sideline if no one serviceable hits the waiver wire.

Yeah, the runner might trip over the scrub in the gap.

I agree. You cant teach 6'4" 220. He is a special athlete who has potential to be a starter. You keep him for the same reason we kept miles Austin in 2006. Too much potential.

Agree with first paragraph.

Second paragraph: we are rebuilding; on the fly. We fired Rob Ryan; he didn't walk. Don't know the reasons for sure but supposedly due to personal differences.

Yes Ryan was disorganized and no one could understand his scheme. But I don't think he was the problem. We made it worst by migrating to a 4-3 without the proper players for it and a GM who was content on bringing in scrubs to fill in the gaps.

The more sensible outcome would have been to find another D. coordinator to run the 3-4. Switching to a 4-3, although it sounded great, was not going to be easy and this is the mess that we have know with it.

No idea if Byrd makes it, but he's one step closer with Newsome just getting cut.

How would we be able to cut players on the Jaguars roster? This makes no sense to me. Do you mean former Jaguar players?

Williams for sure but Byrd has shown more than Street, still we gotta give our draft picks time to develop though..

Byrd is bigger, stronger, faster and more explosive than Street. And is a better STer. Street has the better college pedigree but Byrd is not just more phsically mature, he is the more NFL ready right now.

You just don't cut a 5th round pick after training camp. Almost no team ever does that. I'd say best guess is Byrd gets cut and they try to get him to PS. If someone claims him oh well. We're talking about someone we hope develops into something useful, not a realized talent.
