Kellen Moore - why did he not become our head coach?

I have a theory and it is this. The Jones family wanted Moore as their head coach. He was their first choice. At the interview stage Moore indicated he wanted to bring in his own DEF Co-ordinator Brandon Staley. Staley is from the Fangio tree and was responsible for the successful aggressive Rams DEF of 2020 which he turned into a head coaching job with the Chargers. This was not what they Jones' wanted to hear as they were fixated on Eberflus and his passive bend not break DEF. It was a deal breaker for both parties. I expect Moore to become the Saints head coach and bring Staley on board to revamp their DEF.
If he was our HC, everyone would be ripping JJ....he's not and everyone is ripping JJ....it's that simple. I for one, think he has a better chance being away from jj and this fanbase

Jerry's luck is all gone and unfortunately he is not a talented NFL Executive. He still has not learned from his mistakes with Jimmy.

Not defending jj, but Jimmy had a lot to do with that break up. JJ gave him everything he needed, JJ wanted credit and Jimmy wanted credit. Two egos that size cannot coexist very long. Jimmy could have gone down as the best coach of all time, if he stuck to coaching.....jj should have kept his mouth shut and just siged the checks. Oh well, we'll never know

I don't recall Jimmy thinking he could buy an NFL team and win a SB. I do recall Jerry saying anyone could coach this team and win a SB.

I will absolutely agree to the fact the popular moves often fail and the unpopular often succeed.
Now if you will just agree the move was unpopular and caught everyone off guard because it came out of left field we can simply stop posting to each other about it.

I am a fan of long form posts generally but some days I have 3 minutes and must go.
Also, I spent about 15 hours total watching Cowboys football this year so I'm not that passionate about this board.
Yes I will agree you don't get that very much so take it while you can offer it when I even heard his name come up as smoke on that Sunday before his interview like on Wednesday I thought it was just a rumor so yes it caught us off guard it wasn't the popular choice but given the time now we've had since and the coaching staff he's put together then I'm willing to give him a shot I think it's a good hire when you look at it as a whole it's impressive of the coaches he sought and got to come here..

If we both know it's all up to the Dallas Cowboys front office now are you gonna make this a successful hire by getting him a few more pieces than you got last year and the offseason we need to do more to give BSA shot...

The same reason Dan Quinn didn't become our HC. In my view, he's the bigger loss, although I have always been and likely will always be a Kellen Moore fan. DQ, IMO, did the more impressive job by taking an under-performing Commanders team and taking them to the NFC Championship game.

The reason?

They mishandled the coaching situation, and didn't appreciate what they had — until it was gone.

That's true for both Moore and Quinn, IMO. Two reasons why the Cowboys had overachieved in recent years.

I really dont care how bad we do....I can say this comfortably because its been 30 years...We could tank for the next three years and win three games in the next three years....as long as we end up with the number 1 pick and select Arch Manning...

So, you want Arch already, huh? He's the next Patrick Mahommes?

Absolutely. Our fan base is too ignorant and rabid to appreciate a guy like Moore. Look how they acted towards him while he was here.

Man, our fans are as big of a reason for our failures as Jerruh-tol. It was easy for McCarthy to make Moore into a scapegoat to save his own rear because the majority of our fan base was already so rabid towards him by the time McCarthy needed a scapegoat.

when you look at Kellen Moore, do you see a Jimmy Johnson, or a Bill Parcells? thats why.

The Werder report indicates that he may have bombed his interview here.

I think I read he was in and out in much less than the standard 3 hours.

He's got the genetics. It's no guarantee, but any team needing a QB would be stupid to not draft him if he's available when it's their turn.

i don't believe they had the confidence in him to lead a team...as some on this board do.
i don't believe they were blown away by him in the interview.
i don't think they heard from him anything that convinced them he was ready to lead.
i don't believe he turned them down because i don't believe they offered him the job.

good luck to him in new orleans.
go☆cowboys.
There's a whole lot of difference when he went to the eagles with a champioship roster on both sides of the ball like
they had and then going to the Saints. Lots of luck, Kellen. LOL

Who cares, he got basically fired from two jobs then had one good season with by far the most talented offensive roster in the league. Saints didn't make any better hire than we did.
