Kellen Moore - why did he not become our head coach?

Again ...... that is not the 2 teams we were discussing.

Try to keep up.
keeping up with silly points is not worth it. highlighting why they are silly is. you're welcome, moron

He was a QB. And OC.

Now HC. Plus Ring.

That’s leadership.

We got the Seahawks old OC.
Leadership is much more than just position titles though. Perhaps Moore has grown the last couple of years, but I still feel the same way about Moore as a head coaching hire.

I have a theory and it is this. The Jones family wanted Moore as their head coach. He was their first choice. At the interview stage Moore indicated he wanted to bring in his own DEF Co-ordinator Brandon Staley. Staley is from the Fangio tree and was responsible for the successful aggressive Rams DEF of 2020 which he turned into a head coaching job with the Chargers. This was not what they Jones' wanted to hear as they were fixated on Eberflus and his passive bend not break DEF. It was a deal breaker for both parties. I expect Moore to become the Saints head coach and bring Staley on board to revamp their DEF.
Because he's smart.

Kellen Moore did not become head coach here because we hired Brian Schottenheimer. Too much speculation in this thread. Remember when everyone was saying that the Joneses were trying to force Jason Witten onto the next coach?

We have no idea why the Joneses did not hire Moore. It could be because their visions of the team differed. It could be because they didn't think he was ready. It could be because they were interested, but No-Schott interviewed better. It could be because he made demands that they weren't willing to fill. It could be because he showed up for his Zoom interview in a mankini. We don't know.

rhetorical question... New Orleans is in worse shape than we are
Not so rhetorical but questions that push you to use your brain.

Please be a bit more specific to prove your assumption:

Points are for instance:

How long havent they been in playoffs?
How many playoff appearances did they have in the last 10 years and how many wins did they have?
How high would have been his salary?
How much influecne compared to us would he have had?
Whats their salary cap and are they able to free up space. Compare it to us.
What players do you think are better which are worse ?
Whats the contract situations of those players (length, possibilities of cut, trade, overrall salary cap implifications etc...)?
Compare their scouting department and FO with ours. Please define also your attributes with which you compare them and how you weighted those.

Come back monday and show us your results.
Feel free to add more points into your work to make your results more convincing to your readers.

you demanding I do something guarantees I will not do so,,,,,

you clearly believe a) we should have hired Moore b) not doing so proves Jones is a moron and c) the Saints are a better option even though Kingsbury turned them down

Staley is trash…. No way Moore was bringing that scrub.

i don't believe they had the confidence in him to lead a team...as some on this board do.
i don't believe they were blown away by him in the interview.
i don't think they heard from him anything that convinced them he was ready to lead.
i don't believe he turned them down because i don't believe they offered him the job.

good luck to him in new orleans.
go☆cowboys.
The interview was extremely short, meaning KM had a courtesy interview for the Cowboys.

Kellen didn't kiss up to Booger enough to get the job. He described the possibility of returning in one word, "Exciting."

That doesn't cut it with Booger. He wants to hear what a great job he's doing, how much you love and respect the monumental effort he and Banjo put in and how great an opportunity it is to be considered for such a coveted position.

He doesn't care about your skills, how much you've learned, or your plans.

He's going to tell you all that after you're hired. Rule #1: Suck up. Get job.

Kellen probably was offered more $ and control from NO.
Why would kellen want to come back here after being shoved out for the guy they just let walk??

I dont think kellen wanted to come back here and deal with the jones boys and NO FA's !!
I bet their recent FA record made a lot of prospects like pete carrol etc not want to waste time coming here.
Plus they all know jones boys are CHEAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

irony is when jerry thought that a few years abck and it seemed like KM was on track to be next man up, NOT one of yopu wanted that too happen.
This is very true. When Moore was with us we bashed him quite a bit. We questioned his scheme and playcalling, especially in the playoffs and against playoff teams.

The day after McCarthy left the building if anyone would have given me a list of coaches or the coaches attached to us: Belicheck, Vrabal, Deion, Moore, Schotty, etc. The 2 coaches I absolutely didn’t want was Moore and Schotty.

This is not an indictment of Moore and Schotty but more of an issue with Jerry. Moore and Schotty presented an underlying problem of Jerry keeping the status quo and keeping things in house. I wanted an outside guy to come in and shake things up. New guy hopefully bringing in new culture.

I want to see what Schotty will do as well as Moore. But I’m not sold on Moore as being the next Sean Payton. I feel he greatly benefited from a really good GM. I like Moore and unless he’s plays against us I hope he succeeds but I’m not sold. I’m really not sold on Schotty. But my question is why wasn’t Moore HC material when he was with us? Our offense put up numbers, just not when it counted. I think there’s some recency bias attached to the Super Bowl win that favors Moore. But again I’m not gnashing my teeth cuz we didn’t get Moore, we have significantly bigger problems IMO.

I don’t think tney wanted Moore at all….if they did I think he would be our coach. It is likely what has been mentioned- lack of confidence in his ability to command a locker, have a presence of leader and set the tone with his voice.

I agree with that, doesn’t mean that it’s right but those are questions I share. While I am certainly not thrilled with Schottenheimer at all, Kellen had many years here and I would have been fatigued by the hire day 1.

I thought KMoore was going to be our next HC. Maybe he realized being a "puppet" ain't a good thing.

:hammer:

I don't care how they were ranked I bet people around here thought it was a really good move to hire Urban Meyer Nick Saban Bobby petrino Chip Kelly they were all considered a plus hires and they all failed hard and failed fast not one of them did any good in the NFL...

Who cares that some spare part in the media rank those guys it does not matter what their rank it only matters what they do just because someone's made popular doesn't make it a successful hire until they prove otherwise and until you understand that I'm sorry maybe schottenheimer just never got the chance and he's a diamond in the rough we won't know that but Kelly Moore was Dallas cowboy property nobody wanted they got rid of them the San Diego chargers or LA chargers also got rid of him so he ends up landing on a team fully loaded all in and out somehow he became a better choice than schottenheimer just because somebody put a label on them with no proof?

That's almost as bad as all the preseason rankings for college football or college teams a lot of predictions with nothing to back it up hollow and some of it we saw really bad even some of the playoff matchups weren't very good and they were being hyped up..

I don't care if you don't read it I think you're missing the point just because somebody wasn't ranked high doesn't make them a worse hire doesn't make us wish we had got Kellen more like we're gonna rue the day no the way he put together the staff says otherwise now as this looks like a better hire because he will have to support of his staff to get successful and hopefully Jerry gives him the support of a better roster I mean that's all we have to hope and I don't care if you brought over Bill Belichick in his prime but with no Tom Brady and no defense what is it gonna look like the same goes for Kelly Moore and Ben Johnson where's all this roster are you transplanting that roster and that staff just over to New Orleans because it doesn't matter what they did there it only matters what they do where they go and right now it does not look better on paper for more it actually looks better here when healthy our roster looks better at the moment...
I will absolutely agree to the fact the popular moves often fail and the unpopular often succeed.
Now if you will just agree the move was unpopular and caught everyone off guard because it came out of left field we can simply stop posting to each other about it.

I am a fan of long form posts generally but some days I have 3 minutes and must go.
Also, I spent about 15 hours total watching Cowboys football this year so I'm not that passionate about this board.

Where would you want to coach as a young HC? Dallas is a circus. KM is not ready for that mess.

Oh, but Schotty who interviewed nowhere else for a HC job checks all those boxes.

Moore got Jalen Hurts a ring. That alone makes him a better candidate than Schotty.
Vic Fangio + Saquon got Hurts a ring. That defense was good all year.
