What messes up this targeted number. is that, most likely, these CB's would have been targeted more often and that was the opponent's plan. However, a large number of potential targeting ended up being balls thrown away or sacks.

It wouldn't be difficult to imagine that these numbers would be less favorable to both without the Cowboys pass rush.

There is just not enough data on Joseph. He hasn't been available for a lot of games.

Also, you can expect a greater rate of improvement from Bland because he is rookie getting in the snaps. Under these conditions, theoretically, he will be vastly improved next season.

Who do you prefer to start going forward this season?

Daron has been playing nickel and I've noticed a drop in his play or exposure...pff has him:
Targeted: 31
Receptions Allowed: 27
Also, Bland hasn't stepped up in the run game as nickel backs have to do.

For Kelvin to get on the field AB would have to move to the nickel spot where he has played well in the past...allowing KJ to man the outside CB opposite Diggs. Pff has KJ:
Targeted: 6
Receptions Allowed: 4
Joseph can make some bonehead plays and has struggled to get on the field.

It’s not close. Bland by a mile.

He had the one game where he was emergency start. Most fans hang onto that one start thinking it will carry forward. I was worried that with more tape on him teams will figure out what he can't do.

Hard to say…what I’ve seen from KJ he looks more sticky than Bland. I’d give him the nod.

It's a tough call for me. I appreciate your honest assessment of the player, though.

I agree, Joseph is sticky. But Bland has some nice straight-line speed before I saw him cover at corner. But I think that's his strength. I almost saw bland as a safety, like a ballhawk-type safety. But I don't think he has hips like Joseph. So, it's kind of a tradeoff.

I love the fact that we have so many safeties and TEs.

And that our two starting CBs look healthy.

Anthony Brown is so underrated it's ridiculous.

Didn't Bland play some outside CB in college? My only worry is Bland's 4.48 40 time is hurting him trying to cover faster receivers.

Kelvin Joseph ran a 4.35 40 time, so he's definitely much faster than DaRon Bland. The problem with Joseph is not his speed. It's his decision making. He gets caught looking into the backfield too often while the receiver he's covering runs by him. Plus, Joseph has a tendency to grab a lot, thus causing pass interference penalties.

DaRon Bland has the better coverage technique, but he's slower than Kelvin Joseph. Joseph is faster than DaRon Bland, but he gets too handsy and gets beat because of looking into the backfield too often.

Take your pick. Pick your poison between the two.

They both get beat but it reminds me of Jourdan Lewis under Kris Richard, Joseph is in the dog house. Bland gets beat yet they let him stay out there... everybody gets beat. KJ has the same problem that Jaycee Horn had, he can and will be very grabby, as was Diggs..that's coachable. I like both but we're not going to have all pros all over, someones going to get beat. However I doubt KJ consistently gets beat with bombs and acts dumb when the ball is in the air.

Bland is going through the washer right now as a raw rookie in a tough position playing slot. I still have stock in his upside being a longterm upgrade than Jourdan Lewis, whom I’ll go to my grave saying was overrated by our fans.

I have no idea what to think of Joseph. He really has been an asset as one of our gunners on special teams sans the penalties. It’s also a bit unfair to be overly critical of him when he gives up a play in coverage. The kid rarely plays in the base defense. Young CBs are going to give up plays; you can bet your house on it. I think the coaching staff just trusts Brown more at this point. Next season will be Joseph’s third year and will be make or break. We knew he was raw coming out. Im willing to wait to see how it plays out. If not, see ya later.

Neither are showing themselves to be an answer for the Dallas secondary and with Brown playing as poorly as he is, Dallas will be looking to obtain a CB to pair with Diggs in the offseason.

Difficult to compare inside vs outside CB.

Bland's completion rate allowed is very similar to Lewis. Nickel CBs have a higher completion rate but at much shorter depth of target. Bland's depth of target is 4.5 yards.

Joseph gave up minus 2 yards receiving his 1st ever NFL start (2021 game 15).

Joseph played 64% of snaps in the Packers game this season. He was targeted 3 times on 41 snaps.

We have not seen Joseph as the Nickel CB.

Bland did play outside in preseason and was not good in that role but looked very good inside.

I get it. The things is they have a 5th round rookie starting before two 2nd year CBs drafted in the 2nd n 3rd round. Yes, they have practice, but some guys are gamers. Maybe they suck, but it's just weird that their not getting a shot when Bland isn't light it up, and AB has position flex to go inside.
