Coaching hasn't lost us a game this year.

Kenny Phillips has a big problem
13 m ago By Bob Glauber

The Giants' safety has been diagnosed with an ailment called patellofemoral arthritis, a knee problem that could wind up requiring microfracture surgery.

According to the Sinai Hospital (Baltimore) website, the problem affects up to 10 percent of the population, and patients often undergo multiple operations, only to end up with a severe disability. Among the operative approaches to deal with the situation:

1. Arthroscopic debridement
2. Microfracture articular restoration
3. Lateral release
4. Soft-tissue realignment of the extensor mechanism
5. Osteotomies of the tibial tubercle
6. Mosiacplasty/autologous chondrocyte implantation
7. Lateral patella partial facetectomy
8. Patellectomy (removal of the kneecap)
9. Total knee replacement

Wow. Some serious stuff here. Especially when you read this:

"While operative replacement of any portion of the knee joint is one of the last options,it is often the only good choice left when other treatments fail of result in increased pain. We have found a definite trend of more rapid recovery, better function, more predictable return to work, and decreased dependency on pain medication with this operation. Patients can become very depressed and socially drained by the stress of constant pain and ineffectual prior treatment. Patellofemoral replacement offers more predictable relief from these problems in our experience."

Sounds like Phillips will be lucky to get the microfracture surgery as a way of getting him back onto the football field.

Ouch. Sounds like a career threatener.

Sounds like a Berry-o problem...

Unfortunately, Hodge may have the same thing. :(

Honestly, I think he should get a little soft-tissue realignment with a dash of mosiacplasty, a dollop of tibial tubercle osteotomy, and a splash of lateral patella partial facetectomy -- I think it would do the trick and he would be back in a week or two.

Man this injury is getting worse. They are saying it could now threaten his career. I feel bad for Phillips, not the Giants though.

I really wanted Kenny Philips from DA U! but Jerry won't draft anybody from Miami anymore cause of his ego from the Jimmy fall out. another good safety from DA U! rather have drafted Kenny than Jenkins. we atleast would've had 1 long term solution for the safety position.

Perhaps you haven't been paying attention. The injury sounds career-threatening. Hard to believe he would be a long-term solution if you know, he's not playing.

Isn't Randy Phillips a country-music star? I don't think he would help much -- unless he has a guitar he could smash into Brandon Jacobs knee, Jeff Gillooly-style.

I would pay good money to see that.

You surely couldn't tell by the way he played against us that he was injured. Obviously he had the 2 gimme picks but I never noticed how impressive an athlete he is before Sunday. He's a huge loss to their D.

Seriously, where does Miami - The U - find all these athletic freaks that play saftety? Sean Taylor was on his way to the HOF IMO. Surely Ed Reed is headed to Canton. And phillips and Merriweather are Pro-Bowl, possibly one day All-Pro type players. Those 4 are just from the last 7-8 years alone.

Memo to Jerry...draft the next great Miami safety. We surely need one.

I think you're wrong. Jimmy Johnson hasn't been a coach there for twenty freakin' years -- do you really think JJ is passing over guys he would normally take simply because Jimmy used to be a coach there once upon a time?

That sounds more than a little ******** to me. You can't be serious.
