Is the guy I want. I feel ike I am the only one.

I am really suprised to see so little hype on this guy, why? He is a perfect fit for our team. We have question marks at both S spots and the value does not seem to favour taking a corner at 22. I think he makes perfect sense from a value/need/contract standpoint. Other thoughts???

My dream draft:
1a) Kenny Phillips
1b) Trade for a veteran WR. Or take the best CB available....likely Cason.
2) Running back I think Jones will fall anyway.

**I am assuming we get PacMan**

I'm with you on getting Kenny Phillips. I am hoping the draft goes something like this:

1a. Kenny Phillips FS
1b. Traded for Roy Williams WR/Limas Sweed WR
2. Chris Johnson/Ray Rice/Jamaal Charles RB
3. Brandon Flowers/Justin King/Tracy Porter CB
4. Traded for Adam Jones CB

That's a serious overhaul of the secondary and also is a step forward in getting Roy Willie of the field in passing situations. If we do not get Phillips, I am intriged about SS Josh Barrett and would consider him in the 3rd round. He ran a 4.35 at the combine and is a solid tackler that can deliver the KO. Then there is also the possibility of sliding Hamlin to SS. I would really like to see more of Patrick Watkins and he was really coming on strong last year before he got hurt. He is my sleeper for this year and I think he will have a great season. From what i have read, the coaches are confident about Courtney Brown as well.

Option 2:
1a. Mike Jenkins/Antoine Cason/Aqib Talib CB
1b. traded for Roy Williams WR/Limas Sweed WR
2. Chris Johnson/Ray Rice/Jamaal Charles RB
3. Josh Barrett SS
4. Traded for Adam Jones CB

As much as I really like him, he'll likely be gone by the time #22 comes around. I mean LONG gone will be the issue.

I have a feeling either the Saints or Bears will take him
.

man I really doubt it...and I kinda think he might be available when we pick at 28

If we get Pac Villian you can scratch CB in round one, but I could see us using one of those picks on Phillips (or even Tyrell Johnson if we trade down from 28)

and Felix Jones isnt going to be around at our 61st pick...I cant see him falling past 32-36 or so, and IMO he's a likely 1st rd pick

Flowers doesnt make it anywhere near the 3rd rd. He prob goes before 35. NFL teams are higher on him than draft "experts" b/c he is an outstanding cb who just happens to be slow when timed. I would take him at 28, if we go another way at 22.

Disagree, Both Jerry and Stephen have repeatedly stated that we are drafting as though we dont have Pac-man whether or not we sign him before the draft. I can give you a link in a while if you want one.

What about that Ken Hamlin guy... you know, the one who just played in the ProBowl... Is he a question mark?

Hamlin wants too much money. Safety is a position where we can save by drafting one now and then let Hamlin walk next year. Only problem is it is supposed to be a thin draft for safeties. Hopefully Watkins or Brown can step up.

Oh I heard them say it...its called posturing

only one reason they want to get the Jones deal done before draft day...because it changes their plans and gives them more options early

Agreed thanks....I didn't think I needed to explain myself.

1) Roy Sucks
2) Hamlin is on a 1 year Franchise deal.
Okay, I guess I will try a different route. Yes Roy Williams sucks, but due the enormous cap hit the cowboys would have if they cut him, Williams isn't going anywhere. And yes Hamlin is on a 1 year tendered contract. The Cowboys would like to sign him to a long term deal, but thats a 50-50 proposition. The cowboys like Patrick Watkins . Watkins is a solid special teams guy who also plays in the nickel and dme packages and who could challenge for a starting position next year. They also converted Coutney Brown to safety from cornerback and they like his potential. My point is that at best this year Phillips would be the 3rd string safety. IMO you don't want to use a 1st or 2nd rounder on a safety who probably wouldn't see much playing time this year. Not when the cowboys have more pressing needs at other positions this year.

Roy can play special teams for all I care. Groom Phillips and cut Roy next year. The pick makes sense from a need standpoint and value for where we are drafting from.

Funny how every draft magazine, plus ESPN's draft experts Mel Kiper, and Todd McShay state that rb,cb, and wr are the cowboys most pressing needs, not safety. I agree with what their saying. Its not that Phillips isn't a good player, he would be a nice to have, but you have to address youre weakest positions first, like cb,rb, and wr.

OK...a couple of things.

1) My original post clearly states that this is assuming we get Pacman.
2) The quality of either CB/WR that is likely available at 22/28 is not that far from round 2/3 players. The first round graded players at this position will be gone. So, why reach for the greatest "need". This is the mistake so many teams make in my opinion. Are you really going to be happy with players like: Manningham/Jackson/Flowers in the first???? All of the postions you mentioned can still be addressed later in the draft.

Phillips is the BEST safety coming out.
We could use one.
The value of Phillips at 22 or 28 is about right

Seems to make sense to me.

Phillips seems small watching the Canes play

The days of needing Big safeties are gone. Besides our front 7 is already pretty big. Some speed and ball skills are what we need. Both which Phillips has.

I'll stop now. I just really hope we consider taking this guy over the 5-6 CB taken or the 3-4 WR. We can get similar talent later in rounds 2 and 3. Get the elite S.

I can only assume that you are kidding with this, yeah?

No why??? Are you?

I think there has been a trend of smaller safeties the last few years as rules really help the Offesne and the passing games. What is going on....I feel like I am in bizarro world or something.

So then....help me understand why Roy struggles then?

Because he is 20 lbs overweight and lost his fire when Kelly Rowland stole his Mojo.......

And Kenny Phillips at 22 would be fine by me. He can cover, has range and isnt afraid to tackle. And above all he plays with confidence. Something our 240 lb safety lost 3 years ago.
