Currently:
* Been running for few weeks.
* Leg Pressing over 700 lbs.
* Squating over 500 lbs.

Typically nerve recovery starts at 4-6 months, Jaylon's started at 3 months. This is good sign. The nerve is healing at rate of about 1" per month and area of nerve damage is about 6".

He guaranteed he would play in 2016. I don't care. I love this kid. Sometimes you have to go with your heart and your gut and roll the dice. This kid is going to pay off.

I didn't think he would be able to come back. The reports said that his head was being held in by a thread and that he was only mostly dead.

I love the pick because it seems all that crap about him being done was a smoke screen to get him to slide.

I hope there isn't a bunch of flack about our team doctor being his urge on and all the bad reports.

haha. sarcasm.

Oh haha, I have had a few saki bombs tonight (the GF's softball team got steamrolled out of the playoffs) so that went over my head.

I love this kid though. I wanted him months ago and he just sort of dropped off my radar. I didn't watch the draft today because I was otherwise occupied with the aforementioned, but when a friend texted me I felt a little burned. As I begin to think about it though, it made more sense to me. We all wanted a project QB for this team. Someone who could sit and learn and excel when it was his turn. Well, what we got in Jaylon Smith is the best player in the draft (when healthy) who gets a chance to sit and learn and then quarterback this defense.

It was a ballsy pick, and I am behind it 100%. Instant gratification has gotten this team nowhere for two decades. This is a kid worth taking a chance on long run.

I dont care how good he's supposed to be, we're not gonna use a roster spot for him if he might could be ready for the playoffs, or even in December.......he'll be put on IR, which is fine....I didnt like the pick, but just be 100% for 2017 and hopefully its not a high re-injury risk......

Here are the key facts as I see them:

1) The ACL and PCL repair was a success. This is demonstrated by his return to athletic activities. The only concern at this point is the peroneal nerve.
2) According to his doctor the nerve was stretched and not elongated with no significant damage to the nerve exterior.
3) The best outcome is a grade 2 injury which indicates complete nerve regeneration and a full recovery.
4) The worst outcome is scar tissue forms inside the nerve causing a partial recovery. There are further surgical solutions if this is the case.
5) Smith is 16 weeks or 3.5 months postop and is regaining sensation in foot indicating regeneration is ongoing.
6) The nerve recovery timeframe is around 6 months due to the length of injured nerve. He could well be recovered by July.
6) Modern MRI techniques can see the development of scar tissue and abnormalities. This implies his doctors can tell if it is a grade 2 or 3 injury at this point based on whether or not scars are forming.

Reading this board makes me feel very unintelligent at times. So many people who are smarter than me on here.

I cannot take credit for all of that. We had a discussion in the other thread and that is an amalgamation of the factual stuff presented there.
@waldoputty is responsible for two of the facts for example.

Lots of very intelligent people, with a ton of knowledge in a wide range of vocations here. Cowboyszone is truly one of a kind.

Jerry indicated he could be back as soon as some of the other defensive players who will miss time, or some such gobbledygook. That would seem to indicate week 5 of the regular season, though that seems unpossible on the surface.
