I was watching a few highlights from last week's games and noticed several return TDs and couldn't remember the last kick return for a td we had. Then I was wondering how rare are these momentum plays for the entire league so I did some digging using PFF's Multi Season Team Game Finder.

DAL Stats 2015 - 2019
26th in turnover differential -20 (#1 KC +65)
31st in takeaways 85 (#1 Carolina 142)
32nd in interceptions 41 (#1 KC 89)
18th in sacks 180 (#1 PIT 244)
30th in total def/ST return tds 6 (#1 KC 26)
32nd in interception return tds 2 (#1 KC 11)
T30th in fumble returns for td 2 (#1 BAL 10)
32nd Kick Returns for td 0 (#1 MIN 3)
T21st Punt Returns for td 1 (#1 DET 4)
T21st in safeties 1 (#1 NE 7)
29th Opponent Pen Yards 4100 (#1 Pit 5506)
27th Opponent Penalties 498 (#1 Ten 595)

A few more notable stats
30th in opponent QBR allowed 93.2 (1st SEA 79.0)
31st in opponent comp percentage 65.2% (1st KC 58.9%)

Woof!

Great thread! Were only the news better.

We've had a .544 winning percentage over these years, but ST and turnover ratio has put a hard ceiling on this team.

Yes if you do some digging you would notice that 95% of the time we are in the same company with .400 winning percentages and worse. It's actually a miracle that we have been this good despite the fact that we are non-existent in these other critical areas.

We've been pretty good at throwing the football under Garrett, that's why.

A slight improvement in defense and special teams over the last decade would have netted us a Super Bowl by now.

What's sad is I doubt anyone in the upper mgmt is aware of these stats.

Yep. I get the impression that these areas of our game are not emphasized or even discussed. For example, how does KC have 20 more return TDs than we do? It's a staggering number.

Wow that's insane.

Honest question -
Why would you choose 2015 through 2019?

2015 was a horrible outlier, throwaway year that MIGHT be making some those rankings look worse than they would otherwise.

I’d say use 2016 through 2019 as that’s a more accurate representation of the current core team.

Stats like "fumbles returned for TD" are so stupid. That's all random.

I look forward to your next thread: "Blame shifting stats that define the Garret tenure".

How can we have posters on this site that see stats like these and think our coaching is fine???

Garrett homers are disgusting. They blame our failures on the players/roster and execution but in the same breath, give JG credit for helping build/transform the roster into what it is now....

Is it oochie wally or is it one mic??

And yet 80% of the chatter here is about offense. Defense and ST have been holding the Cowboys back for years.
