Decision time on Keyshawn: Receiver Keyshawn Johnson's future in Dallas probably will be decided today at 3 p.m.

If Johnson is on the Cowboys' roster at 3 p.m., he will receive a $1 million bonus. So the Cowboys must decide whether to give him the money or release him.

The bonus alone probably won't make Johnson happy. Johnson, scheduled to earn a base salary of $1.5 million this season, would like a one-year extension and a raise that pays him between $2 million and $3 million.

The Cowboys could pay him the bonus and release him later, but that's unlikely. The sides have not communicated in the last two weeks.

Staff writer Jean-Jacques Taylor contributed to this report.

Tuesday should prove to be an intersting day for us. If Keyshawn is released, that'll pretty much telepath that we intend on signing TO, I would think. Keeping Keyshawn could signal just about anything -- the fact we're not interseted in TO; unsure if we'll land him, so we're keeping Key as insurance for the time being; or, possibly, the interest in having a trio of TO, Glenn and Key.

Thoughts?

This would also appear to answer the question of when is TO's bonus due. My thoughts are keep Key

I doubt Key is getting cut. He's shown himself to be an outstanding team player and he is a major bargain.

Agreed. There's no reason to cut (he's not costly) and I doubt there'd be much trade interest in him.

It should be 3 central, as it's standard to list local times in all newspapers.

Keep Key and sign TO. as much as I don't want to see Crayton be a #4 since I like him and I think he is pretty good, but what about possible injuries? Glenn always seems to get injured with the exception of last year. if we had TO, Glenn, and Key and one of them went down, Crayton could come in at the slot and we wouldnt have a problem

I can't see us cutting Johnson BEFORE possibly getting Owens, if we plan to get Owens. Even if we have a handshake deal in place, Owens could pull out of it at the last minute. Like you said, keeping Keyshawn could mean just about anything, but at this point I think it's necessary no matter what scenario plays out.

well if you don't release Key till after TO is released and signed, then Key is getting his bonus anyhow, so keep him. I really think it would be a mistake to release him. I think this should be a non issue

That's the whole point. If the Cowboys have full intentions of signing TO, then there's no reason for them to keep Keyshawn on the roster and pay him his $1 million bonus.

However, there always is the outside chance another team will trade for TO, and then we'd be up that ol' creek without a paddle.

I think that T. O. with all of his Clown antics realizes that no team is going to sign him to a long term contract. So the more I look at this sign him to a 1 yr deal with stipulations keep my Man Keyshawn and open this offense up. I record every Cowboy game and once The Flotel went down the 2nd game after that we were toast. I think Pettiti will be alright he had moments but remember he was a rookie thrown to the wolves, and S Peterson is supposed to be back so I think the line will be a lot more consistent this year. The draft looks good for tight ends well into the 2nd day of the draft. replace Campbell via the draft and pick up a linebacker sign Vinateri and get a safety ......

I, for one, will be hoping that Key gets his bonus. I would love to see him stay on and get a ring in Dallas. I think TO could help in that regard too...

I would imagine Key has been in discussion with someone (Bill or Jerry?), or wouldn't he be making some noise in the media? He's not the sort of person to keep quiet if he thinks he's about to be screwed.
