Here's another thug for you. Just took this off KFFL. If this article is correct, it's another reason why I'm fed up with some of the activities of so many thugs in the NFL. I don't care what previous incidents might have occurred between Porter & Jones. But since it appears the video shows Jones did anything to aggravate the situation, I'd like to see Porter have the book thrown at him. Also why is it only a misdeamor to assault someone. You mean I could be minding my own business and somebody can just come up to me and strike me with a closed fist and only pay a small fine. What kind of justice is that? In future I think a heavy fine or any some jail time is necessary and also think/hope Adams sues Porter for as much money as he can get and causes a stink.

Dolphins | Porter reportedly threw first punch at L. Jones

<A href="http://kffl.com/link/162">Mark Curnutte, of the Cincinnati Enquirer, reports Miami Dolphins LB Joey Porter threw the first punch during an attack on Cincinnati Bengals OT Levi Jones, according to a redacted report on the incident. Las Vegas Police told The Enquirer that Jones was gambling at a table at the Palms casino when he was approached by Porter. Video of the incident shows Porter striking Jones with a closed first, with several unidentified men then joining in and punching Jones. Porter was charged with misdemeanor battery and released.

I'd have to see the video, but people joining in along with Porter going up to Jones seems a bit premeditated.

Not to go too far off topic...but sago1, what exactly makes a person a "thug" ?

Well, walking up to someone with 'several' friends who all join in the beating is pretty thugish? But I dont know if that is what makes him a thug.

Depends on the circumstances I guess. But I wouldnt call that being thuggish. Ignorant maybe or even cowardice, but not thuggish.

A lot of people associate "Thug" with ghetto black behavior.....however that is far from the truth....a thug can come from any race or creed or whatever....even women can be thugs...

Someone who is beligerant (spelling), violent, easily incited, goes around looking for trouble, starts altercations, brings friends along for a wolfpack style beatdown, carries weapons (knives or guns), a general disregard for others, often uses physical intimidation as a means of gaining access to things, not much of an intellectual......just an unruly individual....

No offense, but look up the term thug, and answer your own question.

What he did is the definition of thug. It just happens to be cowardly as well (if it went down the way this report says it did).

Not offended at all bro.

I just think sago1 may have a skewed perception of what constitutes a "thug".

And I could look it up, but that doesnt mean that is what his definition is/was.

I see Porter as more of an immature athlete (and yes, I realize his age), but there are many guys that live their teen/stupid years into their 30's and beyond. Not excusing his behavior at all, because it was ignorant. But I certainly dont feel he is a "thug" based on this incident, nor when he was a bystander that was shot. Bad choices, bad circumstances, bad results.

Compared to your HOF WR ?

See... thats the point I am making. People make stupid choices from time to time, that doesnt make them automatically a "thug".

Randy Moss is called a thug, Pacman is called a thug (Well, he is a dumb **)...The list could go on and on. Maybe they are just stupid or immature.

This "thug" stuff seems to bother you for some reason. Does it hit home?

Would you care to share it with us so we can help you through it?

I think this whole conversation is pretty dumb, but I'll interject anyway. Owens may be immature, stupid, and completely self-absorbed, but I think he's pretty far from a "thug."

Porter is more of a ruffian than a thug:

ruffian noun 1.a tough, lawless person; roughneck; bully.

Levi Brown was in Vegas trying to gamble away some of his riches. A tough roughneck named Joey Porter, along with a few buddies, tried to forcefully bully him as he was throwing away his money. That's against the law. OTOH, a thug is a few tiers above a ruffian:

thug noun
: a brutal ruffian or assassin : GANGSTER, TOUGH
- http://merriam-webster.com/dictionary/thug

Now, a thug (and a few associates) would cruise the streets of Miami looking for ATV thieves and pull guns on the thieves in retaliation. Pulling a gun on someone when you can easily replace your stolen ATVs at the nearest Honda Store is a pretty tough, brutish and totally gangsta action.

By comparison, Porter's no thug. :)
