it was a technique issue. He wasn't held down there cause he was gassed he was held down there cause he didn't know what to do in order to move a fat bellied gorilla off the top of him. That Roy Nelson guy is a joke but that is Kimbo's problem. He works hard on his ground stuff but he just doesn't have the ground experience others do.

Kimbo would best serve himself with perfecting his sprawl and make it super hard to even take him down that way. Then he could use it to neutralize guys like that much the same way Chuck Liddell did for years. Kimbo is not likely to ever learn enough, quickly enough, about ground game to be effective. His best bet is to learn the most effective weapon for avoiding the ground stuff which is the sprawl.

There was just nothing he could do.

He was perfectly fine when the fight was standing.

The Thompson fight was along time ago and he has supposedly worked on getting in shape.

In my opinion it was 100% a technique issue.

Roy Nelson is a Renzo Gracie black belt, and Kimbo is relatively new to the ground game. So once it hit the ground Kimbo didn't have a chance. You're right it didn't look like he gassed, he just looked like he didn't know what to do.

He's an accomplished submission grappler. He just doesn't look like it because he's fat. He would have a W over Arlovski if the ref didn't make a controversial standup.

So you think he'll win the show?

Nobody on the show looks like they will ever be a factor in the UFC Heavyweight ranks so far.

Kimbo has trained with Bas and I'm pretty sure Bas has made him work on his ground game so Kimbo isn't new to the ground game...

Roy Nelson is by far, by far, by far, the best fighter on that show.

He moves extremely well for a guy that size. He is Brock Lesner's weight.

He has fought world class opponents and been a true heavyweight for a long time.

He is an accomplished guy all the way around having held championship belts.

He outweighed Kimbo by 35 pounds with him dropping a few pounds to make the 265 weight limit. Kimbo was at 230 and most guys who fight at 205 can get that large in training if not in their normal walking around state.

A non-grappler trying to remove a guy who has him by 35 pounds off him is a tall task and Kimbo had no shot. But Kimbo did display some nice stand up to leave Roy's eye red and swollen in the limited time the fight stayed up.

End of the day, Roy was just too well-trained and well-versed at all around MMA but Kimbo will end up beating the crap out of some of those second-rate guys on the show I am nearly certain. And I suspect Kimbo fights Roy again in the TUF 10 finale show.

Understood that Bas was not really a ground fighter, but I'm sure he would have brought in people to help Kimbo.

Yeah, he was my pick. He's probably a top 15 heavyweight. Top 20 definitely.

He did train with Bas, until Bas stopped training him because he wasn't taking training serious enough. It doesn't matter who you train with if you don't listen to your coaches.

I'm not defending Kimbo's ground game. It's garbage, obviously. But he also has no gas tank. He had no energy on the ground. He attempted to buck him off him once, I believe.

Same thing with the James Thompson fight, who also has very little ground game. Kimbo had no energy to scramble from the bottom.

and lost to all 3 of them. Ben Rothwell and Jeff Monson won decisions over him and Arlovski knocked him out. he's probably the best fighter on the show but that doesn't say much cause they've all looked like bums besides him so far.

I have to admit that after reading this message thread, my curiosity got the best of me so I checked out the show and instantly fell in love with it. One thing that stood out for me with Ultimate Fighter was the difference in coaching technique/style between Team Rampage and Team Rashad, where the obvious choice (for me anyway) is with Rashad - in not only how he coaches his team, but with how he's far superior to Rampage as a mentor too.

Last night's episode "The Snitch" clearly supports this (particularly with how he shunned his own fighter after the loss while wondering aloud why he was the one who was having all the bad luck in this competition). It was also evident from the season premier as well when Rampage had first instructed his team members not to shake hands with their opponents at the beginning of each fight in order to "send a message". That was a bit much for me and I think it reflected badly for him from the onset.

Rampage is a great fighter (and for that alone he'll always have my respect) but when it comes to coaching, he's a huge disappointment.

With that said, I'm going for Team Rashad all the way.

Or how they took forever to arrive during the pre-fight preparations. He proved in season 7 that he's a horrid coach. Just goes to show that even though you may be good at something, doesn't mean you can coach it.

I also think based off of last night's performance that Demico Rogers should be the Team Rampage member to get a second shot at fighting if one of the other guys can't compete. Obviously, they probably go with Kimbo due to the ratings, but Demico looked much better in the octagon than Kimbo.

Rampage is a horrible coach. There is no doubt. It's because the guy doesn't have any strategy or any of that. He just expects all his fighters to be like him. Go out there, bash skulls, get busy on the ground, and try and KO people.

From what I understand that guy doesn't put a whole heck of lot of strategic work into his own fights so why in the world would anyone think he could coach it?

The guy is a great fighter he just doesn't know how to coach people to utilize their best skills and avoid their worst cause he just expects everyone to do it like he would.

I like Rampage but it was pretty obvious from day 1 that the guy can't coach. As a fighter i think he just gets by on his child like enthusiasm and desire to "whoop ***". You can't just pass that stuff along to others, you either have it or you don't

This was the best fight so far this season but that's really not saying much

I still can't figure out why Rashad has been so hated for so many years.

He is a cool dude.
