A few notes from my second first-round projection for April's NFL draft:

• The most notable change between my initial first-round projection and this one is that I have Virginia defensive end Chris Long going No. 1 overall to the Miami Dolphins. This is based on discussions with various NFL sources; however, Boston College QB Matt Ryan is still a distinct possibility to be the first pick. If Ryan goes No. 1 overall, then Long would go No. 2 to St. Louis, and Atlanta would take DT Glenn Dorsey with the third pick. The sources with whom I have spoken have no concerns about Dorsey's medical history.

• The name you can expect to hear more leading up to the draft is Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie. Now that the Patriots have lost Asante Samuel to free agency, I have the Division I-AA cornerback going to New England with the seventh pick. If the Pats pass on Rodgers-Cromartie, the Saints could take him with the No. 10 pick.

• Don't expect the Falcons to take Darren McFadden, because they just signed running back Michael Turner. Also, Minnesota won't be looking at a wide receiver in the first round because they've signed Bernard Berrian, so look for the Vikings to take a pass-rushing defensive end.

Ditto. That's horrible.

Especially since Mike Jenkins isn't even off the board.

If Kenny Phillips falls that far, I think we have to seriously consider taking him with one of our 2 firsts.

I think folks hate this draft b/c it doesn't jibe with the fantasy of us getting Cromartie

I would not say that...I just don't think Jones or Flowers are first round guys.

I'd take Cason or Jenkins, and Ray Rice or Johnson over those two...

This is the first mock draft I've seen that doesn't show CB Mike Jenkins off the board long before we get to pick at 22#. If he's there, I'm taking him with our first rounder & with our 28th I'm grabbing WR Thomas; however this is also the first draft I've seen that shows Thomas going before James Hardy. I also really don't want us to draft Felix Jones in the first round. Also recently seen a very few mocks that have Jones falling to the 2nd round.

Just because this mock has Mel Kiper's name on it doesn't mean it's etched in stone. A lot can happen in the next few weeks.

Yes, but it's more important for me to be happy with the picks. Why? Because I'm the smartest fan that exist. ;) :D :p:

Felix Jones shouldn't even be listed as a potential draft pick anymore

I agree. This is a terrible mock and I can't believe that Kiper would put up this mock draft. If we miss out on Cromartie as I assume we will then I would want Jenkins.
I like Thomas at # 28 unless somebody fell and would be too good to pass up. I like Rice in the second. He probably won't fall that far in the second but there will be some good rbs available at our spot however - receivers also.
