It's good to see that in the last 10 years Kiper only hit on one pick out of all his projections of the Cowboys first pick, he only hit on the 2022 pick which was Tyler Smith and that was because the Cowboys gave many signs that they wanted that player, I hope he doesn't hit on the pick this year either.

26. Dallas Cowboys - Michael Mayer TE Notre Dame
Dalton Schultz left in free agency, and the Cowboys never replaced him. Let's get Dak Prescott a talented safety valve here. Mayer is the best all-around tight end in this class; he's not afraid to latch on to defenders and block. Don't discount his receiving upside, either. He had 180 catches for 2,099 yards and 18 scores in three college seasons. He can be an outlet on crossers and hooks, and he'll pick up first downs after the catch. Dallas also has scouted the class' best wide receivers, so keep an eye out if one of the top guys drops.

54. Los Angeles Chargers - Brenton Strange TE Penn St.
55. Detroit Lions (Minnesota) - Jalin Hyatt WR Tennessee
56. Jacksonville Jaguars - Cam Smith CB South Carolina
57. New York Giants - John Michael Schmitz C Minnesota

58. Dallas Cowboys - Jonathan Mingo WR Mississippi
I thought about a replacement for Ezekiel Elliott here, but Mingo would make an impact on the Dallas depth chart. The 6-foot-2, 220-pound receiver has a great mix of size and speed. He averaged 16.9 yards per reception last season, and he was mostly running short routes. He can break tackles once he gets the ball. He has experience playing both outside and in the slot. This makes two pass-catchers for the Cowboys, and you know Dak Prescott would be thrilled.

59. Buffalo Bills - Josh Downs WR North Carolina
60. Cincinnati Bengals - Zach Charbonnet RB UCLA
61. Chicago Bears (San Fran thru Car) - Jaquelin Roy DT LSU
62. Philadelphia Eagles - Jartavius Martin DB Illinois
63. Kansas City Chiefs - Marvin Mims Jr. WR Oklahoma

I like Mayer, but Id be surprised if they went him over McDonald

Id be shocked of the those top werwnt accounting for 150 catches a year by year 2

NFLs report lists his route running as a positive.

Once you get out of the 1st almost every prospect is being drafted for upside.
This board would complain if we some how got a chance to draft Carter. I don’t think the Cowboys would draft two receivers with their first two picks but I actually like what Mel is doing. Mingo has talent to go along with questionable quarterback play at Ole Miss. Mayer had a horrible Quarterback at Notre Dame. One could argue that he is a Witten clone with more athleticism. One of Mel’s better Cowboys selections.

Lol very true.

I don’t like the Witten comparison though. He was bigger / longer / faster than Mayer. Mayers size was a disappointment for me. I expected to run 4.7 but at 6’6 / 260…not 6’4 / 245.

I hear you. I watch Notre Dame games to me Mayer stood out as a football player. I trust him more then Kincaid.

He’s a high floor guy for sure. I think it’s almost impossible he busts, I just don’t know if he’s going to be any different than Schultz (minus the drops) who was a 4th rounder. Maybe he just gets there a lot sooner/

Don’t worry I don’t even think the Cowboys would consider a tight end in the first. Maybe Washington in the second if he is there at 58. I saw a interesting tweet from Todd Archer. He quietly tweeted the Cowboys would select McDonald if the board fell that way. Archer is probably the best Cowboys insider when it comes to the draft.

McDonald is a stud…I’d be happy.

He said he wondered if they would consider him. He didn't say he'd be the pick.

He's guessing like everybody else.

He is a lot better and more willing blocker both on the line and downfield.

Draft defense, defense and more defense if Dak is still under center. He has to be carried.

Outside of a stud blue chip player, I don’t see anybody having much of an impact after round 1 on defense this year. A stud DT like Benton would be nice in round 3.

DE - Tank, Armstrong, Williams, Fowler
DT - Hankins, Osa, Gallimore, Bohana
LB - Parsons, LVE, Clark, Cox, Harper
CB - Diggs, Gilly, Bland, Lewis, Joseph, Wright
S - Kearse, Wilson, Hooker

Sure. But you don’t draft a TE in the 1st round to block.
And you don't draft one just to be a big WR in the first either

Schultz was lousy at blocking; the fact that you do not think that is important shows you do not understand what a TE is even in todays NFL

That’s exactly why you draft them in the first lol.

Even if Schultz was lousy at blocking, which I don’t think he was, we still were one of the best running teams in football until Steele went down.
