That’s exactly why you draft them in the first lol.

Even if Schultz was lousy at blocking, which I don’t think he was, we still were one of the best running teams in football until Steele went down.
in spite of more than likely - truly clueless

This isn’t 1970…NFL teams are drafting TEs early to catch the ball and impact the passing game.

Have you ever watched a Chiefs game? How often is Kelce in-line blocking?

Mel is a clown...I don't think Young goes 1st and I don't think the Texans take a QB, more likely a trade down...and I don't like any of the pick for us either.

one out of 32 dude. Get a clue. The whole Chiefs offense is about one of a kind but you seem to think they are all the same. Do you know ANYTHING about football?

Kelce, Andrews, Pitts, Goedert, Hock…I mean pick any of the top TEs out of a hat and they aren’t asking those guys to stay in and block a lot outside of Kittle who’s part of unique O.

“Get a clue” lol.

I almost feel as if the TE’s we have are TE’s we got in the hopes of developing. We snatch another developer, and the TE room will be filled with glorified developers. I think if you’re going to grab one it should be a seam stretcher, or I’ll just agree with your sentiment of rolling with the guys we have.

I saw in another post where someone had referred to the collective TE group as “very good” and “capable”. At present we really haven’t witnessed very good, but in fairness to them, they’ll get their opportunity to prove their worth. Perhaps one of them can become very good, but for now I think the capable label is the only one that fits.
Well, the TE position has been pretty solid the last few years with Schultz getting most of the work. I just don't really see much of a step down to Ferguson and Hendershot. Schultz was reliable, but not a game breaker by any stretch of the imagination. I don't see Mayer as a gamebreaker...more of a dependable guy. Not worth a first round pick.

Kelce and Kittle stayed in to block in pass pro on 38 snaps in 2022. There were multiple TEs who had almost 4X that number…but what do I know bc I don’t watch football.

I wouldn’t love the picks. Dak doesn’t like to throw 50/50 balls and neither of these guys will create much separation beyond what their frames create for them.

It does strike me as a reasonable prediction of how things might fall overall, however.
I never seen a Dak ball that wasn't 50/50

I am not going to complain about Mayer but to me, he is not a guy I take in the first round. Unless he is a field stretch, route running, high volume pass catcher I think I pass on the TE. If I want a run blocker, I look in round 3 or 4.

But a lot has to do with who is available when the Cowboys are on the clock.

If the board plays out this way on draft day, I think I would prefer the DT Bresee, or the OG, Torrence. It just seems like the pickings are slim at 26 so adding talent to the OL or DL might pay off more in the long run.

Dalton Kincaid and Michael Mayer are legit 1st rounders for a reason.
Talent wise, but tight ends will never give you what a lineman or an outside offensive or defensive player will. It’s just not about accumulating talent, but improving the football team.

The difference in top 5 Dline/Oline money & top 5 TE money is bigger than the difference between top 5 TE money & top 5 punter money. Really think about what that implies; teams recognize the position just isn’t that valuable. Then associate that with what a top of the draft TE performs as vs a TE later in the draft. 90% of the best ones were mid round picks. Why burn a 1st round pick on the 22nd most valuable position in football, when you can get comparable alternatives in the middle of the draft?

It’s not about knocking down Mayer or Kincaid as players, but accepting the dynamics of how teams have succeeded over the last 10-20 years

I wouldn’t hate it…love Mingo, 2nd seems a round early. Meyer seems like a low risk pick but I’m more intrigued with Washington honestly.
Except I would HATE the iggles getting Gibbs…yikes.

I would have traded down a tad before selecting him but I liked the player. I felt the same with Tyler Smith than I did Travis Frederick.
