if Romo doesn't sign an extension, with Bledsoe past the mid 30's QB would be more important.

I am not counting anything until it happens and I still want to see him do it somewhere other than pre season.

I don't really care what our QB situation is. Tim has proven that you can win a SB with a mediocre QB (Chicago, Baltimore, Washington, etc.)

What did all those teams have in common? Very good RBs

What future?

I don't think anything is a given at all yet. Right now, day 1 of the college season effectively, if I could have any player in college in the 2007 Draft I'd probably want Brady Quinn.
If this team implodes to the point that we are in a position to get Quinn then I'm right there with you. But I don't believe for an instant that it will happen and beyond that I am tickled pick with our outlook for the future at starting QB as it stands.

Sorry about your boy Henson not working out; I had high hopes for him too. But it appears to me that Romo IS working out and I also have high hopes and now high expectations for him.

Personally I hope he never completely loses that gunslinger style. It is part of what makes him good...it is that part of his makeup that allows him to make plays like the one with the high snap. Certainly he needs to tame that aspect of his makeup and control it but I don't want him to lose it. Staubach had that same aspect in his mentality and it was part of what made him great.

I agree totally, but his 1st couple of years, he was trying to be Brett Favre, and that scared the crap out of me, since he's not the athlete Farve was, and doesn't have as much velocity on his throws, I like that moxie, but I want it to be where it's at now...every now and then

Tim who?

I care very much about the QB position and all the others.

I meant in context to our RB situation. A good running game and a great defense is the proven winning formula

notice I said "griping about the future"? I know it's not set in stone, and if you've read what I've posted the other day, I said that right now, Romo is our Jason Garrett, I'm just making an observation that noone is crying about us supposedly not giving a crap about the future at QB, and at the same time, I'm growing quite optimistic about ROmo's outlook

If Romo works out fine and doesn't sing an extension what then?

Until we have him wrapped up I stand by the question...what future?

I believe Jerry will get it done, but what if Romo over values himself, and don't tell me he wouldn't, we don't know that at all.

It isn't about Henson at all. He's gone. I haven't lamented anything. I moved on the minute he was gone.

I understand what you are saying and there are some things in flux in the situation. But it comes down to this; we have to start Romo either later this year or next year. If he is starting before the second half of the ’07 season we are golden because I have faith that Jerry can resign him if he is our starter. If not we are screwed because we will have no one and will be starting over with another retread and have no backup under development.

Tony has Jerry by the short hairs on this next contract negotiations but I have faith that if he is starting for us by then that Jerry will get the deal done. More importantly Tony is forcing the teams hand to make a decision on him next year. But for right now we have a better prospect for the future at QB than I can recall in recent years.

We still just assume this though. I agree with it at this point, but I still want proof. If Romo decides to test the market the only way we keep him is to franchise him and pay him the average of the top 5 QBs in the league and he is nowhere near worth that at this point.

Name one SB winner that didnt have a good running game and a good defense?

No only that, but the opposite has even been proven: That a great passing game usually doesnt win titles. Remember the 2002 Raiders? How about the Colts of the last 5 years? The lone exception was the 1999 Rams, but even they lost 2 years later in the SB.

Pittsburgh played 3 pass happy teams last year in the platoffs, all on the road. They had a great defense and ran the ball. Guess what? They won all 3 games.

Super Bowl winners of the last 3 years

Pats and Steelers: great/very good QBs, running game, and D

you need all 3, so why not get all 3?

You don't "need" all 3. Baltimore, Tampa Bay, Chicago, New York (twice), Washington (thrice), all won SBs with decent/mediocre QBs, great defenses, and good running games.

so stop short of trying to find a franchise QB? "oh, we have a strong running game and D, we're set, we dont' need to freakin' franchise QB" :jerk:it's no wonder you don't run an NFL team, that, and you would be asking your team to throw 30-yard slants :lmao2:

Well Hos...You will have proof of the future when the future becomes the past. Just ask the guys who drafted Tim Couch and Akili Smith. We would still have no guarantees even if we could draft Brady Quinn.

If you will notice in my original post I mentioned that we need to start developing another QB. I do not like this situation of having only two QB's and no one in development. Maybe we bring Baker back to the PS for development but I have not seen him throw a pass and he has already been cut twice in the NFL. That much of our future does bother me.

If I was being asked this by most posters I'd jump right in. Not in the mood for a merry go round tonight. Ultimately it just never gets anywhere.

All I'm saying Jack is right now we have 2 QBs.

The starter is closer to the end of his career than the prime of it.

The backup rejected a 3 year deal and may opt to test Free Agency.

The possibility we need a QB of the future might be very real.

Now all of that I can agree with.

I think Romo wants to stay here or he would not have signed the deal that he did. With the play that he has been getting someone would give him a fat deal after this year most likely. That is the point that most encourages me. He rejected the three year deal because he doesn't want to grow old behind Bledsoe and miss his window of opportunity (can't blame him for that). What the team does as far as making Romo a starter will determine how hard it will be to resign him. Jerry can close the deal if Romo is in place as the starter.

But I think we are both starting to repeat ourselves and we are not that much in disagreement. So I'm hitting the sack...take care.
