Kobe: We'd beat Dream Team

I would take LeBron over Scottie Pippen at small forward. I am a Larry Bird fan, but he wasn't in his prime during those Olympic games. He had already retired from the NBA at that point. Mullen may be a better pure shooter, but I would take LeBron over him all day every day. Give me Bird and James alternating at small forward.

I am not sure Clyde Drexler was in his prime at that time. He was still really good, but he was not in his prime or at least playing at his highest level.

Scottie pippen in his prime is all over lebron. Pippen was one of the greatest wing defenders ever. Remember Paul pierce clamping down on lebron in the playoffs when they won it all ... Pierce isnt even close to what Pippen would do to lebron.

Pssshh........my NBA 2k12 team beats that team hands down

PG : '90 Magic / '64 Jerry West / '94 Penny Hardaway
SG : '90 Jordan / '76 Dr. J
SF : '85 Bird / '64 Bill Russell
PF : '70 Kareem / '93 Hakem The Dream / '97 Karl Malone
C : '70 Wilt the Stilt / '93 Mutombo

Thats the best team assembled ever.....fake but kick ***

"Kobe conceded that the Michael Jordan-led Dream Team, which was comprised of NBA legends and Christian Laettner, would have the size advantage"

I don't think the author was much of a Laettner fan :laugh1:

Kareem was never a PF and I don't think he could be one. His game revolved around the pivot.

Different era.
Really dumb for Kobe to even think that, let alone say it.

This probably comes from that awesome documentary on the Dream team that aired recently on ESPN.

It isn't about facing off against each other. It is about who is better. James is better than Pippen. James can score more than Pippen, is a better passer and is a better rebounder. James can also play some at the #4 spot, so is a bit more versatile. And LeBron is a pretty good wing defender himself.

I seem to remember LeBron James scoring 35, 32 and 45 in games 5, 6 and 7, respectively in that series against the Celtics.

Spare - Christian Laettner

Kobe might replace Clyde on that team ... thats about it. 1992 Dream Team is argueably the greatest team ever assembled.
Not arguably. That is team had at least 10 HOFers and they played together perfectly.
Every one of them.

It's moronic anyway to cross eras...that was 20 years ago.

Mutombo? That is funny. The guy was a one trick pony. He was a shot blocker. A good shot blocker, but that was all. If you asked Hakeem, Kareem, the Admiral or Wilt to just block shots and not doing anything else, they would be very good at it, too. They were already very good at blocking shots and they also did everything else as well. There are lots of centers that would be much better options than Mutombo.

I know that it worked in the traditional way as in, a 3 pt play from the line. Kareem was seriously one of the best passing Big Men of all time. His entire game worked off of that, along with his deadly accurate moves in the post. I don't honestly think he could have been a PF. Would have been a waste of talent. Kick Mutombo to the curb and put Kareem in at Center. Include Duncan at PF. That would be a better use of talent IMO.

Jerry West at PG?
Bill Russell at small forward??
Kareem a power forward?

Anyway and otherwise, that is a good list of players.

Could Hakeem or Mutumbo have played for a USA Olympic team?

Move Kareem to center and then pick up Tim Duncan or Moses Malone to be a power forward.

Nice group. Isn't there a 12 man limit?

The only change I would make is replacing Pippen with Julius Erving.

If there is a 12 man limit, I would drop Kidd, Barkley and West.

dr j was my last guy out, if you will. if we cut it down to 12 id prob do those three guys also, or maybe shaq, we prob would only need 2 center considering tim can play that as well

I thought about it some more and I would consider Oscar Robertson over Stockton. Tough choice. Robertson was very versatile and could play the 1, 2 and even a little bit of 3.

Of course they would, the dream team are all in their 50s now :laugh1:
