Koren Robinson arrested
Vikings receiver jailed on suspicion of DWI while returning to Mankato training camp
BY SEAN JENSEN
Pioneer Press
Vikings starting receiver Koren Robinson was arrested late Tuesday night on his way back to training camp in Mankato, Minn., on suspicion of drunken driving, according to a St. Peter, Minn., police official.

Sgt. Loren Jansen of the St. Peter Police Department said Robinson was arrested at 10:46 p.m., for "driving while impaired" and is being held at Nicollet County Jail in St. Peter.

Jansen said multiple charges are pending, and a report has not been filed yet. "I won't be able to tell you a lot, other than that he was arrested for driving while impaired," Jansen said, "and he is incarcerated at this time."

Vikings officials and Robinson's agent, Alvin Keels, could not be reached for comment early this morning.

A Mankato police official confirmed that they assisted the St. Peter police department in making the arrest. Jansen said county attorney Mike Riley would handle the formal complaint this morning.

Vikings players were expected to report back to the players' dorm at Minnesota State Mankato by 11 p.m. They had been given Tuesday off after a 16-13 exhibition loss to Oakland Monday night at the Metrodome.

Robinson, 26, is in his second season with the Vikings, and he faces a potential yearlong suspension from the NFL because of past substance abuse issues. The ninth overall pick in the 2001 NFL draft by the Seattle Seahawks, Robinson was released by the club in June 2005 after he was charged with driving under the influence and reckless driving the previous month. He also had been suspended four games in 2004 for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

After making the Pro Bowl last season as a kickoff return, Robinson signed a three-year, deal worth $12.7 million during the offseason.

He was projected as the Vikings' top receiver, but his status is now in doubt because of this arrest.

Sean Jensen can be reached at sjensen@pioneerpress.com.

I heard this on sirius this morning. They said that this was sad and they also pointed out that Bill has lost control in Dallas as being equally as sad. Where do these people get this stuff?

Back on topic, I hope there is more to this story because he appeared to come a long way only to fall off the wagon in the end.

Jay Glazer was just on FSR, and he said Robinson was arrested for DUI, driving 105 mph. He said something about it being a felony. Sheesh.

I thought the guy had turned the corner regarding his alcoholism. Very sad. :(

I feel the same.

I suppose that flap this summer about him being in treatment was true, even though he denied it. Maybe he needed it.

Looks like he fell off the wagon. During the Vikes game the announcers were talking about Robinson on how he had been in rehab and how good that was going for him and how he turned his life around.

Well, you don't have to show "sympathy" necessarily, but I'd hope people wouldn't be so quick to judge the guy.

Seeing as how, ya know... none of us know ANYTHING about him personally, really, other than the fact that he's a WR for the Minnesota Vikings.

Guess I was away from that news... I knew he got blown up while he was on ST in KO coverage, but I didn't know the extent of his injury. What happened to Greenway???

I know he has been arrested two seperate times for DWI.

Don't need to know too much else to know I don't have any sympathy for him.

Sorry...famous athlete, drunk or whatever.

You want to drink yourself to death, go for it, just stay off the roads where you put other innocent people at risk.

No excuse and no sympathy.

We all make choices in our lives maybe if people took more responsibility for the choices they make they would not run into these problems.

A man with a substance abuse problem driving with impaired is sad. You can't compare that to someone not practicing, I really thing some people lose site of whats is really important.

It is sad if someone is forcing him to drink and drive and the simple fact he is putting peoples lives at risk. I hope he gets help but feeling sorry for him? no

Although I rarely drink now, there was a time as a young buck, mostly while in the army, that I was fond of the beer.

At those times there were things called cabs or designated drivers.

Now I don't go out to drink anymore, but I am pretty sure those two things still exist.

This is not ragging on you in any way, just venting some more on my previous statements.

not taken that way at all. we all make choices and even when we make bad ones there are good ones you can make to follow that.
