I was at a BBQ with friends before the Super Bowl and three of us were talking about Richard Sherman with a fourth guy that doesn't follow football. We were talking about his trash talking and the non-fan asked if he was a dumb guy running his mouth. All three of us simultaneously said "No, he went to Stanford".

Its just part of the new Era of Social Media. If Hollywood Henderson had an Instagram account back in the 70's he would have created the Reality Television industry all by himself.

I just always have a quick a simple solution to that conversation "Muhammad ali"...usually solves their problem with trash talkers lol

Didn't he play around the time they had leather helmets..... Talk about reaching into the way back, way way back.

He was the 'Boys' first draft pick, #13 overall, in 1961; they wore hard plastic helmets, some with 1 or 2 bar face masks.

He was all-pro 11 times in his 14 year career - all with the Cowboys. He was named to the all decade teams of the 60's and 70's, the all century team, and HOF on his first ballot.

In 1999, Lilly was voted the 10th greatest football player of all time (best DT).

Was a soft spoken gentleman, but could not be blocked one-on-one.

His 29 yard sack of Bob Griese in the '71 SB (an NFL record) was the perfect contrast to his 50 yard helmet toss the previous year - the latter punctuated another frustrating loss (the only time a SB MVP was awarded to a player on the losing team - Chuck Howley), while the former was the signature play of the 'Boys first SB win.

You should have seen this guy play.

Lilly played with a mean edge though. He was a truly nice guy off the field... but he was no nice guy on the field. When he got a chance to lay a lick on someone, he did it with all he had.

Full disclosure: I am too young to have watched him play back then but I have watched plenty of his film (one of my Father's favorite players, along with Tony Dorsett, Havey Martin, Randy White, Everson Walls, and of course Roger Staubach).

No doubt, he was a beast. But he didn't do any post-sack celebrations or trash-talking. He was the strong silent type, like Landry.

Right on! Guy was a beast. I was referring to Ware and the defense this past decade but someone else had to reference that far back to make a point. Which at this stage of the game means nothing; in the meantime I do give honor to our players of the past.

Right but he tried to hurt the QB/Ball carrier when he got the chance to hit them. His hits were just violent. Some of the nicer guys we've had in recent decades didn't seem to do so.

Reggie White, who was certainly a nice guy off the field, played with a controlled rage like Hardy seems to.

All I want is that talent and that edge on the defense. Whether Hardy is a nice guy off the field, or a quirky, cocky guy, makes me no nevermind. :p

Pastor White used to help his opponent up off the field, saying something like "Bless you my child, good try". Then he'd destroy them again on the next play; a really unique guy.

That's the thing - we need to instill some fear into opposing offenses; they should dread having to play the Dallas Cowboys.
We've been missing that.

When he was on, RoMac brought some of it.
