Kris Richard's possible replacement?

How did we ever get to a point where we decided that hiring players with no coaching experience, for important roles like DC or OC, was a good idea? Don't get me wrong, I actually do think that he could be a really good coach one day but it takes time to learn the craft. Great players are not always great coaches and you don't know that until they get in there and start coaching. Besides, Lee has already stated publicly that he is not ready to hang them up yet. He wants to continue to play, be it with the Cowboys or with another team.

I think we probably need to look elsewhere for Richard's replacement.

I'd be inclined to say Ben Bloom, especially since he knows the defense.

I would love to have Marvin Lewis run the defense, but it's not a good fit schematically.

bring back eberflus. offer him asst. hc title as well. greg Williams was just snubbed by his own browns.

The key issue is replacing Richard's CB techniques and DB schemes.

We need a guy well-versed in Cover1/3.
I'd be looking at the old SEA tree again.

Do you think Lee know the D well enough? Remember we just last, players on the D couldn't find their helmet if he wasn't on the field (lol).

That's a lateral....Colts would hang up. Besides for some reason, he wanted OUT Dallas. Remember Martinelli offered to give up the DC title, hoping that keep him from taking the Colts job. Didn't happen....

Lee would be a great linebackers coach IMHO.
And I am sure he knows enough to do most jobs very well.
But this one year with Richard is the year he himself has looked pretty lost.

I want a guy with legit Cover 1/3 experience for "passing game coordinator" as our young DBs but mostly Byron look 100x better.
Lee is definitely worth hiring as a Coach however just IMO not as a Richard replacement.
And I do not want Bowles or any cover 2 type dude either.
I want a cover 1/3 guy badly.

I'd hire Earl Thomas as DC before Sean Lee tbh.

Marquand Manuel perhaps.

I agree 100%......

According to Eberflus, it was because he did not want to disrespect Marinelli by taking the DC position while Marinelli was still there. Now, is that true or not, I don't know. Bottom line, I don't know that anything would really be a change for him, assuming he wanted to come back and we were able to offer him higher position.

Lee ........he probably knows the entire defense as well ( maybe better ) Martinelli

You mean Sean Lee's knowledge increases after some sparking cider?

Sean Lee is not retiring, he is playing somewhere next year, I hope it is in Dallas somehow.

Sean Lee was still Sean Lee until he got hurt and its not a degenerative condition like a knee that kept him out.

Also Marinelli is still an above average Defensive Coordinator, do we really need to push him off on an ice flow?

Not sure you want to throw a guy in as DC with zero couching experience.
Plus, he may pull a hammy.

Gee, I'm sure the Colts would offer permission for a lateral move.
I said offer him asst. coach as well. unless that's his position with the colts. perhaps you should restrict your comments to imploring the mods to move threads

but at 10 million when teams needs to resign: Tank, Dak (?) and Amari Cooper.

You only save 4 million if he retires or is cut - and we have 65 Million in cap space next year assuming he does come back. We get another five cutting Hearns.

I assume you mean head coach since he's already a coordinator.

Forgot he was left at the altar ( alone with Colts) by McDaniel......

Does Lee even want to coach?? He's made a lot of money in the NFL..he probably pays more in taxes than he would make as a position coach

I don't think Lee is done playing, maybe here but not his career. Def would be a good coach though.
