We are going towards a Gus Bradley style of defense than a true Tampa 2. Id prefer someone with experience in that system
And, oddly enough no one is hiring defensive coaches from college that haven't been able to scheme against these same offensive concepts. Add to that the fact that the NFL has invited these schemes in by limiting what a defense can or can't do in an effort to make the game "more exciting". Now, let's go ahead and pretend that a college DC is going to thrive in that environment and we're right back where started. Your new DC getting his *** whipped on a weekly basis.
Who's to say that they aren't? It doesn't mean that they have to hire a college DC to figure it out. A college DC is coaching a completely different game than the NFL. To think that they'd make the jump to the NFL and succeed at THAT level also, is a reach. I'll stick with the guys that already know what it takes to stop an offense at this level. If they want to learn the game at this level and move up, that's one thing. To make the jump from college DC to NFL DC with any measure of success is a pipe dream. The smart programs look at what is and what will be. Gil Brandt was always one step ahead back in the day and now Bill Belichick is in that category. I was reading recently how Andy Reid has dedicated assistants watching college football each week to identify plays and concepts they can immediately incorporate into their offense. It stands to reason that if the NFL is looking to add these offensive ideas and schemes into their playbook, they may also want to look at what successful college defensive coaches are doing to stop it.
If he doesn't get hurt coaching. Lol. He's about due for something new. He's definitely playing his last snaps for us this weekend. He can't keep up with speed of the game latelyHe would be a good LB's coach, maybe DC.
If we lose Richard, the next DC should be Brent Venables or Jimmy Lake. With the league trying to infuse college offensive concepts you might want to get a jump on DC's who have experience defending it.

Miami wants Richard so bad they are still interviewing coachesHow about this guy? He's only 32....groom him for your next DC for couple years and then HC.

If the Cowboys lose Richard, they should hire Dennis Thurman who mentored Richard and knows 4-3 and 3-4 defenses. Sean Lee is LB coach material that needs grooming under someone like Thurman. However, Thurman signed as DC for the new AAF Memphis Express under HC Mike Singletary and Pepper Johnson is the LB coach. I think the Memphis Express will be defense focused. How about this guy?
