LA gave up just as many sacks as Kosier did but played in 5 less games. He cannot move anymore. Kosier can. Its a plus for us over LA.

But Kosier is weaker than LA; I know LA is slow-footed ( one of the main reasons we let him go IMO) but then again, this line isn't exactly fleet-footed. Kosier seems to me to be the weakest lineman in terms of strength. I would only want LA here if he were younger than he is now. Maybe Mquistan shows the staff something and Kosier goes to the bench, and then we would really have a bunch of maulers; and no, I don't think that Kosier making that much dough as a backup is that bad. That is the sign of the times, and besides, we are paying Rivera loads to watch from the sidelines.

Anybody that wouldn't want the young LA back is a complete idiot and should be banned frome ever posting on any FOOTBALL forum.

Anyone who thinks that LA will ever return to that form should also be banned from ever posting on any football forum.

Wow, that's strong.

But then again I can't disagree with you.

Kosier clearly isn't in that class.

Does he get paid a bit on the high side? Sure. Right now he does. But that is the case for any player that signs a long-term deal. That 3 mill doesn't look as huge for 2007 as it did last year. By the 3rd or 4th year of his contract, he's going to be making less than most starting OL in the league.

The crazy thing is that is true.

Wasn't it just last year that Seattle balked at the contract figures Minnesota put up to get Steve Hutchison? Now, teams like Cleveland and Buffallo are giving as much for players who have never made the Probowl, let alone an All-pro team like Hutchinson.

Kosier can be a great backup player, and an even better starter on a zone-blocking team which prefers faster lineman than our own.

Did you watch any of those games he played in SF? Because he was pulling and clearing out guys especially on the game vs. Seattle in which I thought he played his best game. His RB did pretty well for him and LA also made the pro-bowl. This is obscurd, that LA can't move...

It isn't so much about huge contracts as the fact that the cap is going up so much. It isn't unreasonable that veteran starters average 4-5 mill a year in the next few years.

He was great in those 4 games I saw him on the bench.

Couldn't of been, Hutchinson was available

Right you are. Perhaps what I'm remembering is the list of unrestricted free agent guards. I believe Hutchinson was a restricted free agent..?

I think we could have gotten him but instead we signed Rivera... Tek am I right about that?

Wrong year. Rivera was signed the year before Hutchinson hit the market. Now had one of our guards panned out and we not signed Rivera, we might have had the cap to sign Hutch instead of Kosier.

If we can justify paying Keith Davis three million over two years, we can justify paying Kosier three a year for five.

3 mil for 2 years is alot different than 15 mil for 5 years....

Actually Kosier was OK but is replacable, He was an average pass Blocker and his run Blocking skillz was marginal at best, we could not run left to save this team.......

LA gave up more sacks in only 11 games. Sounds like we did ok there.

And frank gore tore up the league, LA mught not be the best pass blocking guard, but guard are more dependent upon ur running game and he's still one of the best Guards as far as run blocking u'll fine

I watched several SF games and LA was NOT as mobile as some of his fans are claiming. And by the 4th qtr he was the same old immobile guy we had, only worse. He was puffing and blowing like a beached whale.

We still made the right decision to let him go. He isn't the same all-world player he once was. His game didn't suddenly get better by going to SF either.
