It seems to me Kosier is better for pass blocking while Holland is a force in the run game. Our O suffered when Kosier went down because we are a pass happy team. Hopefully we make the transition to a running team where it just so happens to be Hollands strength.

We already spent a 5th for Holland. Those picks on OL better start to pan out. We wasted too many in recent years.

The fact that he broke that same foot twice should make anyone concerned.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happens again. We would be foolish to depend on Holland and not shore up the position.

It is not just the injury. We need a young quality interior lineman badly.

I hope Dallas drafts up to 3. They will not get a LT in this draft, and I wouldn't waste a mid-rounder on one, either.

It's amazing how many people on this forum thought Kosier needed to be replaced in 07 and then changed their mind last year.

And we really need to address the OL. Past failures here are really starting to mount some pressure.

Does anyone have any news and what's happening after next year with the CBA?

kosier is a pulling guard...

gets out in space and lead blocks.

you're not familiar with kosier are you?

I don't know Holland well enough to say much. Kosier is good in space and can pull. Which means he gets to the second level well also. He drive blocks well enough and can pass protect well, too.

Should be good competition at LG this year if Holland is as good as some think.

I don't think we need THAT much depth. McQuistan is capable at tackle, Holland is solid at guard...maybe another center and another tackle. You can't have capable starters to backup the actual starters at every position. I don't think we need the depth that some do.

I must admit that after watching Proctor, Kosier looked so much better to me than he had previously. But I do think Proctor's bad play has elevated Kosier's stock above what it should be.

Kosier has great movement skills and does not get pushed around as much as Proctor, but he still gets bullied by big DTs. Holland is more ideal from that standpoint, but lacks movement skills ... which essentially describes all of Dallas' starting linemen except Kosier.

Which one should play depends on what we want to do. If we want to pull a lot, then we need Kosier in there. If we're going to do more straight up blocking, then we need to use Holland.

Kyle Kosier was/is vital to the success of the line as a whole but I wonder where you heard he made the line calls. If he did, that would explain why the line was so much better when he played but I have always heard that Gurode made the calls and at the line before the snap.

Am I wrong?

Can't state a specific source. Just remember reading that last year. Anybody else remember that too?

I thought Holland played well when he was in there? Hopefully Kyle comes back strong and we dominate people in the trenches running the football.

I also remember hearing that he made the line calls. Wouldn't surprise me since Gurode is about as smart as a box of rocks.

The center makes the line calls. He is the only one who can see the whole D line.

BP said that Gurode is very smart but is easily distracted. His best friend was Torrin Tucker and one of the reasons BP got rid of him (outside of him being pathetic as a blocker) was his bad influence on Gurode.

...trading for Holland, was a bad move but a move out of desperation.

My money is on Holland starting this year.

He is just more physically gifted and I was impressed with his run blocking when he was healthy last season.

Then you can have Kosier back up both guard positions which eliminates Proctor as a back up guard and he is then only our back up center.

Center is more up Proctors alley.

Why can't Holland back up both G positions and we should pray that Proctor never plays a down at C

Well now that you mention it, it's been a while since I've seen him do that. I remember Procter doing that this year. Now as far as pushing the line fwd, Holland is better at that.

Are you kidding? Holland could start on about 25 teams..he's an above average OG with lots of experience. I think we got a steal with him considering we can't draft lineman for crap.

Hopefully, that will change in this draft.

Its really amazing all the love Kosier gets these days. In 2007, the consensus was that he was the weak link on the line and needed to be replaced.

When Kosier was down the picking up the blitz faltered big time, that is his biggest asset imo is helping Gurode picking up and pointing out the blitz's
