Numbers in the article have to be wrong. Can't see why they would rework a contract just to spread 150K over 2 years. That's pocket change.
Never question the genius cap mind of Stephen Jones.

The Cowboys are so against free agency they balk at any opportunity to create cap room.

or

The rumors of Stephen Jones thinking that he gets to pocket all remaining cap room personally are true and $150k is as much as he was willing to give up.

Weird, weird move.
This is basically him going to Coinstar.

Be patient . Other reworks are coming. Its only Feb. He is just getting the ducks in a row.

Odd move for just 150k. We almost always convert guaranteed money to bonus to spread across a deal but he's only got 2 years left on his contract, so that isn't going to get us anywhere

Also, if Collins plays 85% of the snaps in 2018 then his 2019 salary jumps to 8.5 mill. If that happens look for a big time extension before 2019

Whew.

Stephen Jones getting his ducks in a row. That idea is so exciting.

This is basic accounting work and yet since it is the Cowboys, it is news.

Relevance. Boom.

No, if we wanted to save cash, we could have saved around 1.75 mill in cap space on La'el's deal. This is not an ideal contract to rework.

Fred's contract will certainly get that treatment this year - we can shave 6 mill off the cap easy. Witten's deal currently has zero bonus pushed forward, we could easily get a couple mill out of that without a problem.

We don't need to be messing with saving 75k to get anything done.

or Maybe he just did a solid for the guy...Maybe he needed some extra dough. Could have nothing to do with anything at all.

I think the reason the restructure amount is so low is because La'el's base salary is only a $1 million for the 2018 season and the Cowboys don't have much wiggle room there to free up more space. I would imagine Dallas will be re-working a lot of deals in the near future to free up more cap space.

How do you guys make the conclusion that he has money issues? They might have to nickle and dime because Dez is being hard headed. I would make that conclusion before saying Collins is broke

What are your guys' thoughts on Collins? Didn't realize he has that big of a cap hit for the next two seasons.

Does he have trade value and could he be a candidate to be traded to clear cap room?

this really makes no sense from a cap point of view. No matter what anyone claims. So there must be another reason for it.

This is not about cap space, lol.
This is basically a a favor to a player. Cut him a check today instead of making him wait on game checks.

I actually think this is probably the case. I just hope the money wasn't needed for a family emergency or something like that.
