Quarterback Coach;2837239 said:Very nice...I see what you are saying. My only contention would be that there is even a thought that a player was hiding from coaches. If he is completely making this up (which again he might be) then dismiss it. The fact that this thought can even pop in to the heads of players to me is an indication of porr leadership. Something led to this thought process. Doens't appear to happen in NE, Indianapolis, NY, etc.
It's not too hard to figure out. Ellis, while being a good player, thought of himself as a great player. He never saw his play diminish, not in his mind. He thought he should be on the field at all times. Spencer took up a bunch of his playing time due to the fact that Spencer was much stronger against the run. Ellis came in during obvious passing downs.
Ellis has a totally inflated ego, and is extremely insecure about the fact that we let him go. We didn't trade him, we didn't look for anything from anyone.. we just let him go.
This hurt Ellis' ego.. but not enough to put a dent in it. He still stands strong.. he may throw out sayings like "Nothing against Anthony Spencer" or "I'm not trying to bash Anthony Spencer" but it couldn't be further from the truth. He thinks that if he was on the field, we are somehow more successful last season and we end up going to the playoffs.
Ellis is a miniature, less-covered by the media version of Owens. Both brought it on the field when "it mattered the most", but lets face it.. both were distractions. Both seemingly gave a guiding hand to young up and comers by taking them under their wings, but that isn't enough. The attention received by each, no matter how much it may have been, wasn't enough.. and it would never be enough. Ellis, as stated in another thread, is one of those guys who only plays for money. TO plays for attention. Both crave it equally, and will say and do whatever necessary to get it (or hope to get it).
