Lack of Tackle Depth!

We heard about Steele's struggles yesterday in the joint practices, this is nothing new. He is what he is, a good run blocker that is maxed out as a poor pass protector. Doesn't mean that cannot succeed with him as a starter, Doug Free had a similar skill set. Good news is that Guyton appears to be having a strong camp, his biggest concern can he stay healthy?

Also have heard that Bass is getting a lot of snaps with the 1's at LG. This could mean that Tyler Smith might be the team's #3 Tackle if they decide to use their 5 best lineman.

Thomas reportedly has taken a step back this season and Shelton needs to get stronger. Haven't heard much about 2nd year tackle Cornellius.

I would think that would be our best option if something were to happen to Steele. Guyton is more familiar with right tackle than he is with left tackle. Some act like if you can play one, then it is easy to play the other, but it's a lot like learning to do something right-handed then suddenly switching to doing it left-handed.

Think it would be smart to add a veteran if there is one out there

I think Tyler Smith alot of RT. I actually think it would be his best position. He could be dominant in both phases. Wont happen though

We have opted for veteran depth at swing tackle the past few years, so I would think if we see that Thomas, Shelton and Cornelius can't get the job done, we'd go that direction. It won't be a starter like everyone wants, but some veteran backup. Someone like George Fant maybe.

I really feel that the Cowboys will regret failing to add capable OT backups for their O-line. What we now have available isn't likely to succeed in the event of any injuries there. Let's be prepared. This team isn't yet ready to challenge for Super Bowl contention in the season ahead. Close won't do.

Biggest weakness of the team. Add to it a 33 year old QB that needs to run a high scoring offense or else. In my opinion this is the worst starting tandem in the league.

How do you have a top 5 offense in either yards or points for 4 of the last 5 seasons when both your OT's and your QB aren't any good?

Somebody is doing something good.

You could say it was receivers last season but somebody had to throw them the ball.

Last season was the first time in many seasons that they had a legitimate running attack.

So what gives?

You can always cover up with one bad lineman, but not multiple. As for a veteran swing tackle, makes a ton of sense, one who has prior starting experience that can spot start when needed. Thought the G/T we had last season from Cincy would be the type we decide to add if none of these young prospects step up.

I agree, we weren’t talking about the offense we were talking about a particular person on the offense, the left tackle
And you could have the number one offense, but without defense, you’re not going far

To be fair, both Guyton and Steele can’t block.

Guyton shows flashes but struggles with consistency when healthy. I saw him last season handle Bonitto in Denver which tells me that he can rise up against top competition, but he has to bring it more on a game to game basis.

Steele is what he is, an above average run blocker that struggles in pass protection. Believe the team wants to replace him but had too many holes on defense to address last offseason. They will try to give him help this season to lesson his pass liabilities.

Could not score in red zone. Kicked a lot of field goals instead of touchdowns.

Best bottom line we can hope for is Steele either suffers a career-ending injury or a decent starter gets cut in camp by another team.

There is no doubt OT is a big question mark and it needs to be addressed in the 2027 draft, or free agency. Maybe OT will be the surprise trade Dallas is really considering instead of Edge.

In any case, I don't think Steele is going to get better at this point. He is a below average OT, maybe average if you weigh his run blocking more than his pass protection. But If he only fails 25% of the time, that should still be good enough if Dallas can give him some help some of the time. I think this year should be Steele's last year as a starter.

To me Guyton is the bigger problem. If he stays healthy maybe he is just good enough. But his history is that he gets injured a lot. If you starters are big question marks then your backups are going to be major problems or else they would be challenging to be the starters.

Nate Thomas, to me is an OG. They need to look elsewhere.
