Wow. Uh, no, he's not even in the same stratosphere as the greatest guard in history.

That's like comparing Jeff Swaim to Jason Witten.

Larry Allen

Bear with me as I explain. First, I'm tired of the non-football stuff. I needed to reconnect with actual Cowboys football this morning. So, I'm looking at clips before work this morning. I am SO excited about Collins at right tackle. I keep catching glimpses of Collins out there... the potential. The attitude and strength reminds me of a very young and unproven Larry Allen.

I know he isn't on that level. I know it isn't the same position. I don't even care if you blast me. Let's just talk about football.

LA played LT one year and went to the Pro Bowl and maybe made All-Pro there.

I'm pretty sure I didn't insult one of my favorite players of all time. In fact, hoping that any one could be compared to him is a compliment, not an insult.

mentioning LA and Collins in any way together outside of them being Cowboys is an Insult to Larry Allen. THERE IS NO COMPARISON in any one with any kind of FOOTBALL KNOWLEDGE.

SLOW down, there partner. Zack Martin is the best OG to come along since we had LA, & I wouldn't even compare HIM to Allen. Allen was a freaking legend. He once bench pressed 700 lbs.!! He ran almost the length of the field to chase a LB down after an interception. He made ALL-PRO at both the OT & OG positions. Collins hasn't even played ONE season yet!! So, please just stop. You're embarrassing yourself.

Was just about to say that. It was All Pro. Dude was nothing short of a stud. Collins should never be mentioned with LA ever again.

look, the OP didn't say that Collins IS Allen, my take is that he sees that Allen had a similar (raw) start to things and look where he ended up...hard to compare them at this point with HOF vs about 8 games....

...it is like saying that Dak is going to be the next great Cowboy QB to go along with #12 and #8....it is putting some hope in a young player that he progresses past the point where we hope he will go

Love Collins at RT, he is going to make a mistake or two and then all of the Free-bashers will climb out of their holes to make THAT comparison....

Note: ol' Pantsy here was very happy with the career that Mr Free gave to the Cowboys...he wasn't all-pro, so what....

We say this now, but he has years still to become what he will be. He's a bad boy, for sure and he has a Larry Allen ceiling. You two should give old boy a chance.

Like the potential of Collins but Allen was generational.

Allen never said much when approached by the media. Some may have underestimated his intelligence. They never underestimated his sheer dominance over an opponent. He was so devastating it was almost comical. I mean, isn't the D-lineman suppposed to be the aggressive one?

What isn't mentioned so much was his competitve nature. LOL, anyone remember a game where the Cowboys missed a field goal and the kicker pointed to his snapper, blaming him? Allen was so pissed, he picked the kicker up and tossed him on the other side of the scrimmage line.

One of the more popular YouTube NFL videos shows Allen running down a safety and tackling him after an INT.

i won"t see another Larry Allen in my lifetime but if I were to make a comparison to a present player I would have to say Zach Martin.

We'll see. When has he had years to settle into a position and learn it's nuances?
Mmmm...
I agree he is due his time to settle in but at this time, he is overrated.

I like Collins, but he's one of the most overrated players we've had on the team in I don't know how long.
Is he over rated? Probably. Is he the most over rated in a long time? Not even close, and yes that player is still on the roster.

People are fairly down on him lately overall. He got hyped quite a bit when he was a probowl alternate a couple years ago I guess. That doesn't hold a candle to the deification of Barry Church though.
