First things first.

Let's see if Dak can stay healthy all season.

Let's see if Dak doesn't get booed off the field after a few silly int's.

NM the passes that are no where near catchable.

They say there's big changes in the NFL from week to week. Let's see how it all unfolds.

Why do some people not get the point that one of the best quarterback gurus in the NFL has given up on him

If MM hasn’t been able to fix Rayne Dakota, why would we think he can fix Trey Trey?
How is trading for a developmental quarterback a sign the Cowboys have given up on Dak?

I mean the anti-Dak crowd was telling me for almost a year that Cooper Rush was the answer. Interesting to see that they now backpedal away from Rush and instantly make this about Dak vs. Lance.

Also remember the Cowboys signed corner Josh Butler back in July. What did you see from that move? MM giving up on Trevon Diggs?

I can totally see Dak getting his job taken away the same way it happened to Romo.
For that same scenario to come to fruition:
  1. Dak Prescott must be the starter and get injured
  2. The backup quarterback must sustain an injury afterwards
  3. Trey Lance performing at the level of Prescott in 2016 or higher, which will instill 100% confidence and support from Jerry Jones, who would not support Prescott returning to the starting lineup after getting medical clearance to regain his job.
Something similar happened in San Francisco last season but it is rare for such events to happen.

I call sub 100 attempts a small sample size.
I do not dispute that. Again, every player who starts 'gets a shot'. At every level. In every sport. Lance's abbreviated production as a starter does not dismiss his opportunity a.k.a. 'shot'.

Then it is a semantic argument. At the end of the day he has not had enough of a shot to make a reasonable evaluation.

Lance is still raw but I’m excited for what he might bring to this team and I think everyone should be. I see far too many Dak fanboys already dismissing him due to how he “failed” in SF. He didn’t get a shot! Let’s give Lance a fair chance in Dallas and not run him out of town. I hope Dak has welcomed him to the team already. Show some leadership for a change!
That would be fantastic, but seems like he lost whatever confidence he had.
It may be a long road back....

Stupid move. Giving up a 4th for a backup to the backup QB......but unfortunately we all see what Jerry is wanting to do here. JJ looks at this as his future Cowboy QB when he let's Dak walk....JJ has tried this numerous times since Troy and none of them have brought the Cowboys any glory........ Why JJ thinks he can bring in either a has been or never was QB and win is beyond me......so yes ladies and Gentlemen get ready for another 10 years of The Dallas Cowboys "winning nothing" style of football.

Smart move giving up just a 4th for a QB that has first round ability; albeit yet untapped. The Cowboys wanted to draft a developmental QB back in April but the guys they wanted were gone. Lance is just 23 and even has (limited) NFL experience that a rookie does not have.

Lance is no more a gamble than Aiden O'Connell, Max Duggan, or Stetson Bennett would have been. The potential return on so little an investment is tremendous. If Lance flops so what? He was worth a try at the cost of a pick the Cowboys would have used on who? The next Josh Ball?

I'm not sure if the link is going to work...But, its an interesting take on Sanahan. Watch the video..
The link works, thanks for posting. One very interesting thing in that article is Trey wanted to be traded to a team to compete for the No 2 job. He knows his place right now. Good. I see this as a win win. This reminds me of the time we signed Ryan Leaf. I was excited about that because he had all the physical tools to make him the 2nd overall pick. It didn't work out but it also didn't cripple our franchise. If Trey doesn't work out, losing a 4th rounder doesn't cripple our franchise. Especially if he knows he's at best the No 2. I don't see what we have to lose by doing this. I'm personally happy about it and it's rare that I'm happy with our GM. But I give him respect on this one. Very little risk with a high ceiling reward.

Agree with you in the main but they’re pretty solid in the fourth. Dak, Pollard, Schultz, Fergie is pretty good hit rate

They should get 3rd or 4th round comp picks for losing Schultz and McGovern in free agency too next spring.

Those are some brakes that need to be stomped on because tapping is just not enough.

Sure but I think the way you are taking the argument completely misses the point he is making to instead focus on semantics.
Semantics?

The OP:

Lance is still raw but I’m excited for what he might bring to this team and I think everyone should be. I see far too many Dak fanboys already dismissing him due to how he “failed” in SF. He didn’t get a shot! Let’s give Lance a fair chance in Dallas and not run him out of town. I hope Dak has welcomed him to the team already. Show some leadership for a change!
The OP and you are stating Lance did not get a shot because of his average performance during a short injury-riddled timespan, which prompted the 49ers to cut bait. Within this particular logic is the fact San Francisco made its assessment of retaining Lance long-term before, during and after he was given a shot to perform as the team's starting quarterback.

The semantics here is an attempt to alter the meaning of the phrase 'getting a shot'. The fact remains that rookies get their shot at starting from childhood into their adult playing careers in all manner of sports--after not accumulating ANY amateur or professional statistics. Zip.

Yet, Lance's time in San Francisco is being framed as so inconsequential that he did not get a shot, even though he won an opportunity to play as a starter. Semantics is omitting his opportunity.

"Could" being the operative word.
