I have my doubts that Trey Lance will actually amaze anyone with his heretofore untapped potential as a QB. I'm expecting both good and bad plays and several runs that display his abilities in those efforts. I have my doubts that he'll impress many of us with his passing acumen. If he does, his presence might grace this team for years to come. It's high time to test him under live conditions. It should prove interesting, to say the least.

I don't get why playing Lance. Just play the guy who is most likely to win (Rush, I guess).

The starter will be Dak next year in any case. It's not like we are evaluating a potential starter.

And both Rush and Lance will be FAs next year. Do we really need an evaluation game for a backup QB FA? I mean there are other possibilities in FA, outside the team, and you won't have a Cowboys game from them either. Why do you need one from Lance?

Starting Lance feels like JJ getting cute to retrospectively justify a trade they made, for a third stringer. And really who cares. It's a sunk cost, good or bad. It's water under the bridge, you hay-barn man. And it's not the end of the world, to spend a mid level pick. It wasn't betting the farm, just maybe betting a cow or a horse or a goat.

Well, I certainly hope they have some mobile plays for him.
Get the kid out of the pocket. See what he's got.
I saw him in pre season and I do have a couple concerns

1072 offensive snaps thus far on the season for the Cowboys.

Cooper Rush has 572 of 'em, which is 53.3%

1072/16 average is 67 snaps per game, so if Rush started (probably won't) and went 67 snaps, total would be 639 out of 1139, which would be 56.1%

just a few numbers, doesn't really mean much.
Means 500k for Rush. And means he wont get it if Lance plays

And this FO will be absolutely thrilled with that being the case. They should have tested him more already, but Jerry refused to do so. Rush would have to play almost all of the Washington game to get that extra money, according to recent coverage. This FO has great interest in saving money.

A real garbage move. As a fan Id much rather see Rush get his 500k than watch Lance audition for the CFL

I know when Jerry said it, and about whom. I just don't get the metaphor. Hay goes bad if it's in the barn too long. It's also been known to spontaneously combust on rare occasions (I believe).

The only logical thing I can come up with is that it means that chore is finished, as in there's nothing more to be done...which is not something we want to hear.
It does indeed create spontaneous combustion. And usually right in the dang middle.

Given how the season has played out......Trey Lance has been done a disservice. This franchise is completely focused on trying to fool it's fanbase but is only fooling itself........again.
I know about Trey Lance's performance in the preseason.........what do you have to lose now?

It does to Rush, he gets an extra $250K if he plays 55% of snaps.

The only reason Lance is playing is to avoid paying Rush extra $.
