It's the equivalence of a preseason game, and they are giving other teams a chance to scout Trey Lance right before he becomes a free agent.
Whether or not the acquisition was smart or a waste, the Cowboys have nothing to gain by playing Trey Lance on Sunday. It only benefits other teams.
Another stupid move by Jerry.
But, it's his team, and he can do as he wishes.
He's made it very clear that the Cowboys are his, and he doesn't owe the fans any explanation. It's all about Jerry, and the $10 billion franchise is all his and fans should be proud to keep paying money to let him live out his fantasies

If Rush is playing really well, and we jump on top of the Commanders then Lance isn’t likely to get significant playing time if any.

I don't get why playing Lance. Just play the guy who is most likely to win (Rush, I guess).

The starter will be Dak next year in any case. It's not like we are evaluating a potential starter.

And both Rush and Lance will be FAs next year. Do we really need an evaluation game for a backup QB FA? I mean there are other possibilities in FA, outside the team, and you won't have a Cowboys game from them either. Why do you need one from Lance?

Starting Lance feels like JJ getting cute to retrospectively justify a trade they made, for a third stringer. And really who cares. It's a sunk cost, good or bad. It's water under the bridge, you hay-barn man. And it's not the end of the world, to spend a mid level pick. It wasn't betting the farm, just maybe betting a cow or a horse or a goat.
They don't want to win. They have a good chance of moving up from 13 with a loss and a good chance of moving down from 13 with a win. They have a chance of getting the 11 spot which would be like having free trades up in every round. This draft has around 13 players that will have a 1st round grade. The Cowboys have a shot at getting 1 of these players and could get lucky with their 2nd pick. They have a shot of getting a good runner at some point as well and very well could snag 2 runners.

This draft is more important than a win.

All In with this.

Plus, they'll give Rush his bonus anyway, they always do.
No they won’t. Teams rarely do. Jerry Jones won’t pay money for available players that would play for the team, but he’s going to pay a half million dollars to a player not to play? Particularly one that is about to be a free agent. Don’t be ridiculous.
