Yeah, it absolutely isn’t just a situation where you have to pick up that 5th year or lose him. They can work a deal out where both sides are happy.

Like I said, Lance is in no position to play hardball on a contract. They’ll have plenty of time to figure out if Lance is a franchise guy or not.
Right. But keep in mind he will never take a longer term deal for less money. It will be 1 year at a time.

Something crazy would have to happen for anyone to pick up that 5th year option. The 5th year option has become the most irrelevant thing ever. If a first round pick is any good he is gonna sit out for an extension after year 3. If he stinks he isn't getting his option picked up.

The Cowboys will find a way to get him on the field in some capacity this season as a situational QB. Jerry even said he could pay dividends this season. They can’t throw this entire year away with him sitting on the sidelines, knowing they’ll have to make a decision about him in 2024. They have to find ways to get him on the field and develop him, because they don’t have much time to figure out whether they want to extend him without having to pay $21 million on his fifth year option. They’re not about to pay him that much money. There’s ways around it, but they would have to redo his contract.

Well, they have till next year to figure it out. Todays' world doesn't plan ahead. It's all reactive versus proactive. Hell, he may be the starting QB in 4 weeks. Stuff happens in the NFL.

I think Dallas works out new deal for Lance, but the sticking point is that he would get $20M+ on a 5th year option. A new deal from wouldn't be close to that on a per year basis.

Another option is to decline the 5th year, and let Lance hit the market then re-sign him after he gets an idea of what he could make on the market.

The team knew this. They’ll have a plan to see what he’s got and decide what they want to do.

They don’t have to pick up that 5th year option. They can just resign him to a new contract as long as both sides agree. Lance is in no position to play hardball on a new contract.
I hope you're right.
I'd like to see him go through a full off-season, training camp and preseason games.

It is going to be hard to extend Lance and Dak. If Dak is looking for $230+ in guarantees on a 5 year contract. You can’t pay your backup anything really. As of right now I think Dak gets extended and Lance plays out his deal next season without extension. The thing is lots of things can change by May 2024.

And y'all have been all excited for this Jerry trade? For what? For most likely the Cowboys will not pick up the $30 million 5th year option for a 3rd string QB who is going to do nothing but sit on the bench in 2023 while occupying a roster spot and costing you a 2024 4th round draft pick?

Who in their right mind believes this was a smart move by Jerry???

He just has to pass Rush for the number 2 spot. Dak hasn't played a full season in a while so if Lance is number 2, we'll get to see him play.

Real smart move by Jerry. 23 year old with talent at the quarterback position you can never go wrong. A 4th round pick is like a compensatory pick. If Dak goes down we will be ok with Rush/Lance.

Wow Deion’s son and Colorado!!!

Trey Lance is not anywhere close to as good as Deion's son, Shedeur. Not even close.

Very impressive but he has his father on the sideline. I bet he wouldn’t do well with Shanahan.
Are you kidding? Shedeur already reads defenses way better than Trey Lance, and Shedeur Sanders is super accurate with all of his throws (short/mid/deep). It's not even close. Kyle Shanahan would love someone like Shedeur. You guys are gobbling up Jerry's bad mistake and covering up for him. SMH

The Cowboys must decide by May 1, 2024 if they want to exercise Lance’s 5th year option which will cost upwards of 21M. If this year is going to be a development year for Lance, should the Cowboys take the 21M chance on him?
Why can't we wait until the end of April to make the decision. It's far far to early right now.

You have made up your mind about Lance like the Dak haters with Dak. Ok…. Be you.
