Indeed it was Sir, but 666 was off the wall.
I love Chuck Noll. Watched his A Football Life. His dubious relationship with Bradshaw is intriguing to me. The way he utilized interior lineman was second to none at the time.

But I'm straying this topic off the OPs theme, so I should stop. I know it will pain you to stop reading about the Stealers :D

Technically Custer was only a Colonel then. Very arrogant and very sure of himself.

Sorta over estimated his ability and underestimated how mad the Indians were and how many there were.

Frankly he got what was coming to him but I felt sorry for all the men he got killed.
So cocksure he left support crew served weapons behind( Gatling's)
Those troopers having been given the chance would've mutilated with as much or more wanton bloodlust as those Sioux and Cheyenne warriors did,,, Custer had a evil track record concerning atrocious acts committed by his troops in the past.

now.............if Marinelli could show glimpses of the "flex" D-line once in awhile.....Landry had his reasons for it, but he had dominate players that would've succeeded no matter the scheme.

The problem with the Gatlings was that they were mounted on heavy wagons. VERY SLOW. Custer was ORDERED to move with speed.

Unfortunately he was also ordered to use his own judgement....
