Lane Johnson names two Cowboys as his top 5 pass rushers

I see you’ve been reading some off season blogs and tweets with lots of “speculation”.

We’ll see. I’d certainly love to see Williams step up and get double digits.
I’ve actually commented earlier that the hype from the media was premature. I’m not sold that Sam will get double digit sacks this season but he has a much better chance of it than Tank.

I think he named DLaw because he thought he was one of the best 5 pass rushers in the game. You don't agree with him?
Lane Johnson can rank them any way he wants to; his perspective is far more valuable than mine.

But yeah, I’m surprised to see DLAW listed and not a guy like… ya know… DPOY Nick Bosa. Or maybe even LJ’s own teammate, Hassan Reddick.

We had 54 last year. If we could get that to 60 this year, I’d be thrilled.

We lead the league in takeaways last year with 33 and even with a higher than hoped for giveaway rate, we were still 2nd in the league in differential (+10)

If we could get 60 sacks and a +12 differential we would be in a good spot defensively for sure.

Did Lane Johnson name DLaw to make himself look better?

Because he pretty much dominates him all the time.

edit: just gave myself a great idea on how to get ahead in the corporate world
Probably has more to do with going against him twice a year. There are some pass rushers Lane doesn't face very often.

However, I do think Lawrence is respected in the league far more than he is here.

I guess he was just listing guys that have given HIM the most trouble. It would make sense that he'd list NFC East opponents that he faces often, as they'd have many more chances to have good games againsthim vs a guy he might face once every 3 or 4 years. I'm not sure how many times he's ever faced Bosa....(maybe bosa lines up against the Left Tackle primarily?)

Either way.... these player rankings by other players usually aren't that great. They usually end up being biased by friendships or guys that USED to be good

DPOY Bosa didn't do squat against Johnson except get pushed around and knocked on his butt in the NFCCG.

Probably. Sometimes you play against a guy that is just a tough match-up for you and you rank them higher then the rest of the field might.

I'd be interested to see how Tyron would rank them. I wonder if Olivier Vernon would be in his top 5 or HM also. Vernon used to be a tough matchup for 77 even in his absolute prime.

Yeah but nobody is going to argue that Dlaw is better than Bosa
Come on, you know some will here.

Dlaw is a very solid DE. But he has NEVER put up the stats pass rushing that makes this ranking anything more than someone maybe just having fun or whatever; I have not seen DLaw do much against Johnson ever.

I don't recall him being as dominant as trent ever in his career
Maybe not quite prime Trent, but literally top 2 or 3 in the entire NFL. Tyron was absolutely clamping pass rushers for nearly a decade. He's pretty much a sure fire Hall of Fame player.

Most players are really only at the height of their ability for 3-5 seasons. When Tyron was at his best, there weren't very many in the game that came close.

Part of this is also usage. DLaw isn't super explosive anymore, but he's often the guy on the stunt just eating blocks so that others can run free. There aren't any 10+ sack guys around the league doing that.

So many judge DE's on QB sack totals. That's not all of DLaw's game.
Dlaw is one of the most complete DE in the league. He is really good against the run and is a good pass rusher too. He’s not an elite sack guy but he gets pressure, hits and really impacts run game

Dude averages 6 sacks per season. He has made over 100 million in his career with just over 50 sacks. Almost 2 million dollars per sack. The only thing he specializes in is signing contracts.

2013-2016 2x All-pro 1 and 2x All-pro 2.
One more All-pro than Trent.

He was as dominant as any Left tackle during that span.

NFL top 100 in 2017 (so for the 2016 season) he was the highest ranked o-lineman on the entire list
I don't recall him being as dominant as trent ever in his career
Tyrons highest ranked season was 1st team all-pro NFL top 100 #18. Trents best season was 1st team all-pro and NFL top 100 #14.

Sounds pretty close to me
