The USC Trojans have announced the termination of football coach Lane Kiffin after a disappointing blowout at the hands of Arizona State. The Trojans' release:

[USC AD Pat] Haden informed Kiffin of his termination upon the team charter's arrival back in Los Angeles early Sunday morning following USC's 62-41 loss at Arizona State.

Kiffin's Trojans have lost 7 of their past 11 games. USC is 3-2 this year and has lost both of its Pac-12 games. His overall record in 4 years at USC is 28-15.

Haden will hold a press conference at USC on Sunday afternoon at a time and place to be announced.

Now what if the offense fails this year but the defense shines and Garrett is let go. Could this possibly be the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys? I'm just asking if it's possible.

I'll let the mods decide if this is worth keeping in this forum.

I'd literally cry if that happened. I'm not even exaggerating.

Bro, in no way am I suggesting this will happen or I want it to happen. Just could it happen?

Oh, understood. I knew you weren't arguing for it...I was just giving my honest opinion. ;)

Seriously, there are probably 50 guys I'd hire before Lane. Maybe 100 if I sat down and thought about it.

EDIT: Even if I were the AD of the smallest DIV One school I'd still look elsewhere.

It's taking everything I have not to make a Longhorns joke here too...

Or could Lane be brought in as an assistant if there's a new staff next year?

I don't think Tennessee wants him back after what he pulled.

Pulled? He got an offer from one of the best programs in the nation. Many coaches would have done the same

Can a coach or player ever get cut/fired without there being a thread about bringing him in? Ever? lol

I don't think Lane Kiffin is a great coach, but I also don't think firing him five games into the season is the right thing for the program either.

No. It could not happen ever. He is not a good coach at all and his history shows this. I'd be surprised if he gets any major college offers maybe not even mid major. No way an nfl team would hire him as head coach.

At best, Jerry might throw him a bone and hire him(only because of Monte) with some assistant title or something. I don't think it will happen but it is a rare possibility.

In no way will he be considered for HC in any way, shape or form. He is a terrible head coach and will be lucky to land another gig, especially in the NFL.

Let's see:

Oakland? Taking the Oakland job is a turmoil in itself. Gets canned after public feud with Davis. Probably for the better.
Tennessee? Didn't really accomplish a lot there. Most of the Vol fans still missed Fullmer. Didn't help that Kiffin didn't seem particularly interested.
USC? Perfect for him to go back home. Even with a lack of scholarships, still routinely recruited his pick of 4/5 star recruits. Underperformed on the field, poor QB play and some extremely bad playcalling.

The guy is not a great head coach. I think he's an eternal assistant or position coach, but give him to much of a leash and he'll flush your program.
