BTW Chris Peterson and David Shaw are supposed to be on Haden's short list.

Shaw is a proud Stanford alum so he is a very hard get, unless you are a NFL team.

Peterson is in the running but isn't as hot a prospect as he once was.

They will make a run at Jon Gruden since he currently isn't coaching. After that, look for USC to reach out to Jack Del Rio and Kevin Sumlin.

I don't think Lane Kiffin is a great coach, but I also don't think firing him five games into the season is the right thing for the program either.

I believe their 2014 ranking in recruiting was 40 something. He had to go and he had to go now.

So a guy with a job in the NFL like Del Rio can just leave & take another job?

RT @KegsnEggs: BREAKING: BAD RT @coachPSully: Just spotted Jack Del Rio in LAX #USC

Expand

The Denver game, where Del Rio coaches, was in Denver and started at 1:25 PST. Assume the game takes 3 hours, that's roughly 4:30. If he bails right away (would never be allowed), and there is no traffic (after a football game?), it takes a minimum of 30 minutes to the airport, so it's 5:00. He runs through security and gets on a plane at 5:30. A flight from Denver to LAX is 2.5 hours, which makes it 8:00PM. The guy's tweet is at 7:04PM...hard to believe this one.

A flight from Denver to LA takes a little less than 2 hours. With the time zone difference it can be done in under an hour.

And yes any NFL asst coach and can interview for any collegiate job at anytime they want. This is still a free country.
The NFL rules prohibit NFL job switches as part of "league" rules. They can't regulate anything else. He could have left at halftime and interviewed... all the Broncos could do was withhold his game check and fire him.

Del Rio's job was to coach the game. It makes perfect sense for him to catch the next thing smoking to LA after the game. We are talking about a 1M a year asst position versus a 6 or 7m a year head coaching gig at his alma mater.
With few chances at another head coaching NFL job this may be the best gig he ever gets offered.

I fly from L.A to Denver and back quite a bit. No way anything commercial is going to be less than an hour. It takes 45 minutes to fly to Vegas BTW. The best time flight time I have ever had was just under 2-1/2 hours. Like I said not impossible but very unlikely.

yea, if he's willing to burn all his bridges. far more likely that he takes the job after the Broncos season ends. Similar to O'Brien did going from New England to Penn State.

I saw a little story somewhere where Jack said he was interested in USC.

Any chance Monte goes after the USC job to avenge how they treated his son and redeem the family name?
