My opinion / perception

As much as PArcells likes Nguyen....he prefers to employ larger linebackers in his scheme.

Shanle fits the prototype that Parcells is looking for.

I also think that it is telling that Shanle is still getting the lion share of the snaps when we are not employing the nickel last week. Even though Nguyen was cleared to play.

wasn't it just like a few weeks ago, that Bill was praising Dat and how he trusts him so much?

BP has gotten way past the size thing concerning Dat, he's one of his favorite players, no way does he not start

The Nguyen / Shanle situation may be much like the Glover / Furgusen situation.

Because of age, size and scheme requirement, Glover would wear down if required to play the majority of snaps. So...Parcells has Glover in a rotation with Ferguson...and Ferguson is the preferred option on running downs whereas Glover is the preferred option on passing downs.

I think that there are a lot of parallels with Shanle / Nguyen

Nguyen may get his starting job back...but...I don't expect that we will be getting the same number of snaps that he has been getting up to this point. Shanle is here to stay...and his role will be a significant one...at the cost of the number of snaps that Nguyen takes.

I can agree on all points.

But I say that no way does Nguyen go back to the number of snaps he was getting before the injury...and before the recent performances by Shanle.

^^I agree, but Shanle won't be seeing significant snaps because of Dat's age, size and the scheme requirement, but because how well Shanle is playing, which is very well and ably

see, this is what I hate about Nors, he gets people to pick and choose sides just like he does, although they never intend to, well, for me that's gonna stop now, I'm just going to say what needs to be said, Dat is the starter when he's healthy and Bill feels comfortable that Dat is comfortable, and Shanle will still see alot of time because he's playing very well, and leave it at that

OK..sounds good to me. It's all a matter of degrees.

I would change my vote after thinking longer about the question.

Nguyen still starts...but as Parcells has stated many time (in response to the questions on Glover)...it is not about who starts.

And as Sports Babe stated earlier today. Parcells has a master plan behind splitting up the playing time amongst all of these players.

I think you'll see a rotation of Dat and Shanle. It really doesn't matter who "starts" as both will play. BP's has said that Shanle is our best LB in pass coverage and he has the size against the run.

As for Dat, his leadership and instincts are unquestionable.

I look forward to a solid rotation

hey, u got no arguments from me, just that this bullshart about the D playing better because Shanle is in the line-up and Dat is out, and it's anything but recovering from a pretty serious injury that is keeping Dat out of the starting lineup, that amazes me

Question: If Shanle is our best LB in pass coverage why is it that Dat was the lone LB in our dime package during obvious passing situations?

Hmmmmmmmmmmm........

I smell Nors in this falsehood.

Parcells NEVER said that Shanle was our best coverage LB, he said he was better at it than James.

In TC our nickel LBs were Dat and Burnett, Burnett's injuries opened the door for Shanle. Burnett's struggles and James mental lapses in coverage...he's cost us 2 TDs this year in SD and NYG...along with Shanle doing okay at it, is why Shanle is in nickel.

It has more to do with Burnett and James playing poorly, than Shanle being good at it.

Nguyen, Dat LB 5-11 238
Shanle, Scott LB 6-2 237

I don't know where this perception that Shanle is "big" comes from. I consider a "big" linebacker to be in the 250 range.

He is a little taller, but thats about it.

I think the reason he didn't get any opportunities at SOLB was because Parcells thought he was too small for that position.

This is a hot topic - Dat has been not dressed and relegated to backup since healthy.

I just don't see Parcell's having any reason to yank Shanle - and he hasn't and Dat was healthy past 2 weeks......

He was physically healthy but not mentally. When his mind is right, he's the best ILB we've got.

actually, since Scott is taller, he would look thinner than Dat, so I dont' know where people are getting this misconception that Shanle is bigger

James has been outstanding in coverage and has been a BIG reason why the team is tougher & better then it had been...

Shanle also deserves to be the starter, as he is also bigger, tougher, quicker then the past his prime Dat the "Gnat" who is better suited for nickle downs & ST because he lacks the toughness on 3-4 downs...

I doubt Dat see's anymore PT in the 3-4 in his career unless more injuries happen...

And...What was up with Dat doing NOTHING on Henry's pick return for the TD? He didn't even look for anyonbe to block...Parcells won't take that ether...

We need hungry tough players, not ones at the end of their careers just collecting paychecks...Or is he still afraid of contact?
