Well you keep 6 linebackers which is fine for a 4-3 team. Thomas, Gifford and eventually Romac and you cut Phillips if you bring back Phillips in a few days and eventually Romac comes back.

JML, Covington etc suck on defense. You don't keep guys like that JUST because of special teams. These days, with these rules, ST is mostly about "not screwing up" as opposed to being a star, etc.

I agree with everything you've said. But maybe the Cowboys will keep just five LB's this year (since they only field two around 75 percent of the time). That opens up a roster space to keep one of the impressive young d-lineman we've seen this summer or even an extra corner like Donovan Olumba. We'll see, but I could be wrong.

I would keep Olumba anyway. Eventually, maybe later in the season or next year, I'm taking Jackson over Goodwin too. Goodwin is a JAG who can cover backup receivers but mostly is just another ST guy.

I personally think Heath is elite at special teams and should be our special teams captain, but really shouldn't be playing on defense unless the score is out of hand. Wilson should be our starting SS of the future.
