But Leary’s sore knee isn’t related to his disorder.

For a guy with a degenerative knee condition, this is doubly concerning. It could greatly accelerate his retirement....

This is why it was hard for many here and many in the NFL (outside of Jerry Jones) to get too excited about Leary.

Leary cannot be counted on for this very reason. You just never know when he won't be able to lay because of his knees. I have no doubt this is more serious then they are letting on. It always is. If they say day-to-day, it ends up being a week or two. If they say 2-4 weeks, it ends up being 4-6. Would anyone really be surprised if Leary is unable to go week one and misses significant time?

My guess is due to his history, they are just kicking the tires again. Now if he reports that his knee has been bothering him, then they ordered an MRI, then I'll start worrying about him. This sounds like they are just being cautious which is good.

Edit: I just read JG's comments. Now I'm a little concerned. Let's hope for the best.

5 years? Never heard that and I don't think there is anyway you can put an absolute timetable on that. Shoot I don't even know if that's medically possible.

Did you hear this from a medical expert on degenerative joint disease or from the guy at the Quicky Mart? Just curious.

I would think his career will last as long as he can withstand the pain in his joints. It may not even be five years but that was the risk they took.

Right, like "degenerative knee issues" are a new thing or something... Guys have played long careers with this. It's a matter of the condition of the rest of your body and what you're willing to sacrifice going forward.

It was an honest question.

I quit college ball my sophomore year because I had/have osteoarthritis in my joints (since I was a kid) and I got tired of walking like a 70-year old after practice and games. I was told I would have to have knee replacements before I was 50. Well, now I can wait until I'm 70 to get my knees/hips/shoulder joints replaced.

That's exactly what the reports were during the draft; hence, why he wasn't drafted. He was thought to be a second or third round pick if his knee was sound.

It's all over the internet. Do a google search on his draft profile coming in to the NFL.

He was highly regarded as a player, but no one wanted to waste a draft pick on him.
