But that's not the same as saying his career will be 5 years max.

"Might" need and "will" need are two completely different things.

Obviously no team took the gamble that "might" wouldn't turn into "will" in the 7 rounds of the draft.

Well, obviously they didn't have a crystal ball, but that was the estimate.

Microfracture surgery has ended a lot of careers in a lot of sports.

Why the 2-6 week range? Simple scope is nothing and not even close to that range. I was fine 7 to 10 days after mine. Don't see it being near the 6 week range if its a simple scope like inflamed tissue removal.

Could be a meniscus issue...

It's expected to be two, and he'll be ready for the Giants.

However, they might find something not expected; hence, the six.

I hope this is the case. Wish Waters was more of a reality and less of a want. Even if Livings is healthy and ready to start, I don't think he is better than Waters. And I don't want to see Waters starting versus the Giants!

Wait you DON'T want to see waters against the giants? If waters and Leary are both in the lineup come week one I'd be ecstatic.

I think Livings is done, mentally and physically. They'll probably keep him as a backup because he counts a ton against the cap anyway.

My gut still is, the line will be Smith, Leary, Frederick, Waters, and Free on Opening Night.

I agree concerning Livings: never liked him. I'm holding out hope that Bern can stay healthy and Waters can be a backup. Either way, the line will be solid at the guard position if Waters signs. If he is signed.

Waters at 80 percent of his former self is a better player than Bernadeau.

Jonathan Vilma also had his knee scoped today. The Saints expect him to be ready for the opener.

The New Orleans Saints have been hit by a rash of injuries on defense this summer. Add Jonathan Vilma to the list.

The veteran linebacker has opted for arthroscopic knee surgery after seeking a second opinion Wednesday, a source informed of the injury told NFL.com's Ian Rapoport. Vilma will undergo a minor procedure in Philadelphia on Thursday, and likely will miss the rest of the preseason. Vilma is expected to be ready for the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons.

That I'll have to see to believe. ;)

There aren't many starting guards who aren't better than Bernadeau, and most of them aren't six-time pro bowlers.

Age and injury didn't get Waters. Salary caps did. He won't play for cheap.

I would wait and see what happens after the scope. That's a big timeframe and they may just be lowering expectations and being cautious.

I sincerely hope this year's iteration is OL is good enough that it can withstand the potential loss of a player who has seldom played since being drafted. If all the alarm in this thread is justified than we are probably doomed to another mediocre season with or without Leary.
