He's clearly a better scorer than Magic, but better all around is at least debatable. As for stats, scoring is the only category where LeBron is notably better, and Assists is the one category where Magic is notably better. Other categories are pretty comparable. I also think it's reasonable to argue that Magic controlled the tempo of a game and was more able to maximize the abilities of his teammates.
Fair enough. I think what LeBron’s doing this year in regard to his assist numbers show what he’s always been capable of as a passer, when he wants to be a true pass-first guy.
But LeBron’s such a dominant scorer on top of that passing ability, and in my opinion, that’s what separates him from Magic. His large scoring load is also why he didn’t reach Magic’s career APG numbers.
Magic always had a stacked team when he was winning with the Lakers, which doesn’t take away from his greatness. LeBron has dragged garbage Cavs teams to 60+ wins and Finals trips. I don’t think Magic was capable of that... I’m actually not sure if any other player in the history of the game was capable of that.
