They have to pay him tackle money under the frachise tag. Not sure Benson being as cheap as he is will do it. Besides they let Willie Roaf go because they wouldn't pay him. He continued to dominate in Kansas City and showed he was worth the money.

The only reason he started was because of his signing bonus. BP would have looked really stupid if he played Gurode instead of Rivera. Rivera was a better guard. The back injury took away his power and explosion and he was overwhelmed at the point of attack. Compare Gurode last year to Rivera this year. Gurode and last years Oline were able to allow Juluis to run for over 700 yards in 7 games. This year even with a healthy Adams Jones only got a paltry 3.3 yards a carry. What changed? the RT and Guard postions. Rivera over Gurode and Pettitti over Tucker. The tackle postion is about even. You do the math.

That is just absolutely wrong. Gurode is an awful guard. The only way he made the team this year was with his ability to play C and G. He couldn't beat out Johnson at center and he certainly could beat Rivera.

And you can't compare across seasons as you do -- well, you can statistically but it is totally meaningless as we had different players in a number of key positions -- like QB -- and different opponents and an RB recovering from a serious ankle sprain.

Oh yeah, Julius busted many of those yards in '04 when Gurode was benched. And I'm pretty sure you can't block from there.

Apparently he will be.

Lecharles Bentley will be available.....

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to team reporter, Kenny Wilkerson of WWL radio, the Saints aren't going to franchise or transition Bentley. Bentley will be a UFA. According to Wilkerson Bentley's contract demands are just too rich for the Saints and the team has far too many holes to fill. Despite their reputation the Saints have opened their wallets for players as of late, plus they have room under the cap, so Bentley's demands must be $$$$$$$$.

Another interesting bit of information, Wilkerson said that Marvin Lewis of the Bengals and Bentley have become close friends. People around Bentley have talked about how he's going to "go home" (Bentley's from Ohio). Sounds to me like "tampering".

Bentley is about to become the highest paid Center in the NFL.......

You really think BP started Rivera over Gurode because of his signing bonus??? WOW. I can't honestly believe someone typed that.

Dude tell me that Marco Rivera's play wouldn't have got him beched with Jimmy Johnson!! Jimmy would have tried to see if either Peterman or Gurode could have done better about midway through last season. After BP refused to bench Intercepttaverde for Romo or Henson, I began to question his starter selections.

Dude, Gurode sucked at RG so much last year there is NO WAY that BP was going to stick him in there. He was moved to center for a reason. That has nothing to do with Jimmy Johnson or Rivera's signing bonus or Intercepttaverde getting benched for Romo or Henson. If Peterman was ready, he would have been in there. Obviously the coaching staff felt he wasn't.

so he like losing, huh?

If I was looking to get on a team on the rise, I'd seriously consider Cleveland.

Crennel is going to be fantastic there. Getting 6 wins out of that team was pretty good.

Okay then why not sign Bentley and move him to guard. He has made the probowl in that postion. Then releasing LA would not be such a bad idea.

And I'm not sold on Peterman by any means. I don't want to have to rely on either one.

1st you say this

I just want to see some young, talented guys brought in. We are extremely old up front on offense and it needs to be addressed. In fact, we're old on offense period.:banghead:

then you say this

but aren't Gurode and Peterman, both young and talented? I think we need something else in our lineman

What young FA guards are out there? Hutchinson, he's not going anywhere. If I'm not mistaken Gurode was a much better guard than Rivera. I do agree that we are too old on offense, but you got BP to thank for that one. He wants to win now and it might come back to haunt us when he retires. We gotta get Peterman in there. How else are we going to know what he is capable of?

we're not old on Defense, and I bet you we'll be thanking Parcells for that too when he retires

Parcells is hardly done stocking the talent and depth of this team, 1st phase was on D, now watch him focus his attention to the offense and special teams

teams can slap a franchise tag on someone, and don't have to pay all that money...

they just have to take the tag away, and give him a new deal before a certain date, which they will most likely do IMO

the run Ds we went up against this year, were much stouter than the ones, with the exception of Washington twice, that we faced in '04

Yes. Lets give a guy big money and them move him to another position. If you want a guard sign or draft a guard. Don't sign someone who has made his mark at center then move him -- sure he can play there -- but his success is as a center.

File this with all the sign or draft big name CB and move him to FS suggestions.

He made a probowl at guard. I think that makes him extremely valueable. What if Johsnon plays much better next year? Beleive it or not Bentely is a much better guard than Larry Allen (at this point in his career) or Marco Rivera.
